One of the circuits that appears to be a “must-have” for a modern racing sim is the Nurburgring Nordschleife. We have seen it in titles such as Gran Turismo and Forza, and know it is coming to Assetto Corsa and iRacing via laser scanning. Now, we can add another sim to be including the “Green Hell”, as Slightly Mad Studios has teased the circuit’s arrival to Project CARS.
Well, it’s no big secret that the Nordschleife would be coming to PCARS, with a lot of YouTube videos showcasing it (check out our Test Drive here). However, this is the first time that an official term regarding the Nurburgring has been teased, with the name being “Eifelwald” serving as a placeholder. While we don’t know the extended details of the licensing with the famous circuit, we will know more “soon”.
I personally feel that this influx of Nordschleife-related content is a good boost for this relatively small hobby we all enjoy. Looking at ten years ago, I can recall maybe one racing sim that had officially featured the Green Hell (Grand Prix Legends). Now, we have two available on consoles, and three more to look forward to on the official side of things. Also, don’t discount the third party work that has been done (for example, rFactor 2’s amazing Nordschleife conversion), that could easily rival first party outings. Regardless of how you feel about the circuit, there is no denying that it is a challenging circuit, that can test even the very best of racers.
