Presenting an iRacing Rookie MX5 Cup Race @ Summit Point.

I had  received a lot of requests to see more driving from me. I decided to take a look at what it was like to run in the iRacing MX5 Cup rookie class since I hear a lot of people complaining about it. Well, since I had already advanced to a D license and my iRating was more than 1600, I made the top race of about 10 different splits.

iRacing Rookie MX5 Cup Race

I started at the back so I could essentially watch the field and how they performed and they did really well! I’ll be also running a street stock race doing the same thing and may also go back and watch the bottom MX5 Cup split to see how they perform and show all of you. .

EDIT: Here’s my video discussing some observations from the lower split race at Summit Point / Jefferson Circuit

  1. Just wonder why you never seem to use the T500 wheel? I love mine, it was stiff at first, but has slowly loosened up and since I can set the strength, on pc at least, I have fallen in love with it. I remember you had trouble with your cooling fans, did you ever get that fixed?
On the racing, yeah it is not too bad in the rookie road racing when you get into the better groups. It is a different story when you are racing with the bottom of the barrel racers. It is still better than the bottom racers on a short oval. Those are wreckers with nowhere to hide. At the bottom level races in road and oval, it seems like people tend to focus too hard on following the car ahead of them. I have had people follow off the track, as I try and give them room to go around. Even at the end of the race when I pull off the track so I can get out of the room I have had people just slam into me at full throttle. Even when I have not had a single problem with anyone during the race. Just some sort of tunnel vision. I am not saying I am perfect. There is a good reason I am still in the bottom level races, I am a slower driver. I spend too much time watching my mirrors, trying to stay out of the way, which causes me to drive even slower. That is why I try and avoid busy races, when I race.

  2. Hi Darin.
I agree with Tim on this one, you were in the top split where good racing normally happens since the more experienced drivers end up in the top splits, as you pointed out, not one Rookie license driver in the split you were in. Now run a few races, come in last to make sure you seriously lower your iRating and try being in the bottom 4 splits out of 10, totally different story, this is where you’ll see the frustration levels of the people you were referring to as bitchers and whiners lol.
As for the 2nd crash, when you got rear ended by the red bar, you didn’t deserve a 4 point hit, it’s one of the things I really don’t like about iRacing, in the code of conduct, they promote clean passing but punish the car being passed when the passing driver gets too aggressive, to me, that’s just not right.
Other wise, good race, Jefferson is a pain in the butt track, try Laguna Seca or Okayama long in the bottom splits, this may open your eyes as to what the Rookies really have to deal with! LOL
    Take care

PS: actually, you don't really have to race in the lower splits, just spectate a few races there. This way you get to see the ones that are desperately trying to keep it clean and those who just don't have a clue. 🙂

    1. The points hit is the bad part of iRacing simply not fair to the good driver, the # 1 thing that iRacing needs to take a serious look at and change.
