Welcome to Inside Sim Racing and another post E3 report and this one is on the Assetto Corsa PS4 and XBox One Interface. I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of going to E3 in general. One of the cool things about going though, is interacting with people that I’ve known in the industry and a lot of times meeting for the first time face to face. This year I got to meet four of the developers from Kunos the guys who created Assetto Corsa and Netkar Pro and had a great time taking shop and getting to know them. I met Marco Massurutto the Production Director, Aristotelis Vasilakos or Aris who is responsible for Vehicle Dynamics and UI design, Simone Trevesiol who’s the lead 3d artist and track designer and Stefano Casillo who’s the co founder and lead developer.

I have a little footage of me talking to Marco and Simone, but unfortunately didn’t capture any of myself talking to Aris or Stefano. I wish I had audio rolling at the time because we had some great conversations about Assetto Corsa, sim racing in general, console racing titles, the transition of Assetto to the console and a lot more. Matter of fact, I will have a Skype interview in the near future with Marco to discuss a lot of what we talked about at E3.

I would like to say really quick that they were some of the nicest guys I have ever met in this industry. All four of them were so passionate about what they’ve created with Assetto Corsa. I’d also like to congratulate them on the success of Assetto Corsa.

Now on to what I got to see and try while I was there.. They had an early version of the UI that they are developing for the console version which is also going to transition to the PC as well.. Something I’d like to point out that I discussed with them is that they assured me that they’re development on the PC won’t be effected by the transition to the console and vice versa. The reason I say that is that I saw a lot of PC racers up in arms over their decision to transition to the console. I personally think it’s a great thing and that they will hopefully sell millions of copies to help fund future development.

So back to the UI, as you can see they will be going away from the HTML style setup and it will all be in game. So far I think it looks pretty cool. It’s still work in progress and things are missing but you can get an idea of the direction they are going with it. Everything I was doing to navigate was taking place with the Dpad on the wheel.

They have a version of Assetto already running on the console, I think it was for the PS4 but it wasn’t ready to show at E3.

I did get to try some upcoming content while I was there too. I got to drive the Toyota GT 86 and SCG 003 which is the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. There’s been some hints that the SCG003 will be available in Assetto and I can confirm that after taking it for a test drive at Monza that day.

Both cars felt really good and were still work in progress.

So that’s about all I have on Assetto Corsa for now. I definitely need to get back to some coverage of it since they’ve added the Dream Pack and continually updated it. Like I said, I’ll be interviewing Marco soon via Skype and maybe I can have some of the other guys drop in during the conversation as well to say hi.

Speaking of the guys, would like to thank them for their time and being so cordial and for showing me some of what the future of Assetto Corsa looks like.

  1. At least it will force them to make setting up a room easier. The current one is ridiculously difficult.
