Steam Early Access of DiRT Rally is coming to an end next week, but unlike other endings, this is a happy one. Next week – and by next week we mean most likely Monday – Codemasters will release the Winter Wonderland update, the final update for the Steam Early Access version and – most likely – the beginning of the official retail version of DiRT Rally.
Early Access has been a resounding success for the Codemasters team, evolving a solid game that literally popped up over night into an excellent title that – more times than not – improved by following the wishes of the community. Many studios ask for fan input, only to go down a predetermined path. But that hasn’t been the case with the DiRT Rally, and it shows with an excellent product. It’s like you guys – and us – actually know what we’re talking about…
Back to the update, which stars – you guess it – a snow covered drive through the forests of Sweden. Very excited to try these stages out. Winter Wonderland also brings two new – modern – cars, the Volkswagen, not-a-Golf, Polo Rally and Hyundai Rally. Both will join the 2010 class and will be a nice addition for fans of modern rally.
The end is near, but I couldn’t be more excited.
