It is not every day you get to see a race driver comparing their own personal sim racing equipment to their real world counterparts! LMP2 Le Mans driver, Mathias Beche has made a two part video comparing Fanatec ClubSport V3 pedals to the real deal!
The first short video has Mathias standing in the pits at Le Mans with his Clubsports propped up on the front mudguard of his Oreca LMP2 car. He explains a little about his sim racing pedals and how they stack up when directly comparing them to his real car’s pedal system.
The longer, second video is much more interesting to watch, as we are treated to a great passenger’s eye view of being inside the LMP2 cockpit! I noticed how low Mathias was sitting and it is hard to tell if the seat has been removed for filming purposes or that it really is that low.
What was also of interest to me, having recently reviewed the v3s, is that he also only has a damper fitted to the brake pedal. I had dampers fitted to both throttle and brake pedals, but after a brief period using both of them, I opted to remove the throttle damper and stick with the one on the brake. Also of note, was the sandpaper applied to the brake pedal only, I am guessing that with a flipper paddled gearbox and no need to heel and toe, the brake pedal was too slippery for Mathias in its standard form.
Naturally, these videos could be construed as commercially motivated, but by the same token, it is a rare look inside an LMP2 car’s cockpit. All in all, a worthwhile watch, mate!
