At this year’s E3, Ubisoft has released the first trailer for upcoming The Crew 2, which was only announced recently and is scheduled for an early 2018 release. There is a lot to talk about.

Boats? Planes? Please explain!

What started out as a normal open-world racer has now evolved into a GTA-like potpourri of motorsports. The Crew 2 still models the whole United States. The difference now is though, that you can explore it not only on road but also on water and even right up in the air. The Crew 2 is really the first game of its kind.

You will have the choice of four different “motorsports families” to compete in:

Visuals

What is immediately noticeable is that the game has received a very significant visual update and looks a lot crisper and vibrant than its previous iteration.

If this is the result of an updated or completely new graphics engine was not said just yet.

The Crew 2’s content

We already get to see a lot of new content in the announcement trailer. Here is a quick rundown of what we saw:

Porsche

Right at the beginning of the trailer, you get to see that a new manufacturer was added to The Crew – no, not Ferrari – Porsche! It is the 911 GT3 RS, which is also coming to Gran Turismo Sport and Project CARS 2.

Off-roading

Next are the off-road vehicles. Generally speaking, these are not new to the series, but motocross bikes, trophy trucks, rally cars and monster tracks will definitely contribute to the versatility of the game.

Planes

In the trailer, we only get to see one model, some kind of stunt aeroplane. This kind of plane seems like an obvious choice, since they are both fast and agile.

Race cars

Just when you think that The Crew might have abandoned motor racing fans all together, the planes fly over a race track with an array of different touring cars on it, including a BMW M4 DTM and an Audi TT touring car. While you are still trying to get your head around all of the action in the trailer, it hits you with the next feature. The…

Damage Model

We only get to see it briefly but how one of the touring cars is being smashed to pieces does look quite impressive.

Hypercars

An Aston Martin Vulcan appears out of nothing after the accident, confirming the inclusion of at least one hypercar. If you consider the Vulcan to be one.

Open-wheelers

We even get to see some open-wheel cars racing on an oval-looking track.

Power boats

If you think that the boats might be fictional, then I will have to prove you wrong. The boat showed off in the trailer is a DCB M31 and is “one of the fastest boats ever created”.

Racing experience

To make the racing more exciting and more blockbuster-ish, Ubisoft has added lots of jumps to the events allowing to even drive on rooftops.
