This Week Inside Sim Racing – Gran Turismo Edition

This Week Inside Sim Racing is focusing mainly on Gran Turismo 6 this week.  We will be talking a little bit about an upcoming trip for the team to the Nascar Hall of Fame to meet this year IRacing Nascar champion.  We also talk abou the second build or patch to the newly released Assetto Corsa.  And then, the main topic of this weeks show is Gran Turismo 6.  When we released our first hour video of GT6 we were still under embargo and had to keep our thoughts to ourselves.  That embargo has been lifted and though we are not reviewing GT6 yet, you are going to get some of our first real impressions.  We also go a little bit deeper into the game, beyond that first hour, and really start to see some of the upsides of the new generation of the title.

    1. Hi Jeff.. If you push the pedal all the way in before a race, it calibrates to that throw. It will stay calibrated during your total session playing that day. Just make sure before your first race, to press that brake all the way down. Also, run with ABS set to 1 for driving aids. Hope that helps.

  1. The pixelated screen as on Goodwood is normal, its not a bug. I play with HDMI connection and I got the same problem. They probably do it to improve fps in-game. Great review again guys. Thx!

  2. You calibrate your brake by pressing it in all of the way once the game has started but not driving yet. It self Calibrates based on movement.

  3. Another great insight guys – I’ve been swithering about GT6, should I buy now, should I wait and see if I get a PS4 in first few months of 2014, what will DriveClub be like etc….the more I see and read of GT6, the more I am thinking I’ll go pick up a copy. Keep up the great shows, really appreciate the time and effort you put into these. All the best from Scotland.

  4. Hey Guys, Maybe you know this , but I use a GT3 RS V2.0 (756/170) and can’t find a way to map the buttons. Any ideas!?

  5. I really enjoy the GT grind, but sometimes the lack of a harder AI can give you some dumb races that you just got the right car and can blaze trough the races…

  6. I don’t mind the GT grind so much, but the AI is a bit easy to beat and this can get boring. I’m currently using the playstaiton joystick until I can get the Fanatec working on the PS3, and I am finding it pretty easy to win the races so far.

I have also never completed a GT game because I usually loose interest in the game after a while.

It would be good if Sony got a bit more innovative with their AI and adjusted it’s difficulty based on the previous race results.

So, if you win, the AI difficulty goes up, if you start to struggle the AI gets a bit easier. It would also be good if the AI learnt your driving style and adjusted to it, and adjusted it’s aggressiveness for it’s AI drivers. So, if you punt a driver off the track, they mightbe more aggressive with you next time around.

The AI adjustments would occur between races.

Maybe this is something Sony could consider for their next GT game on the PS4.

  7. People are a little off when it comes to what GT diehards are talking about when it comes to the “grind.” They are talking about the grinding it takes to get some of the cars in game. I’m OK with it only because I hope at some point it turns out to be like GT5 where the pay outs get better and credits are not that hard to get.

  8. The AI in this game sucks. And that is being kind. I wish there was a way to set the AI. I guess this is where FM5 has GT6 beat hands down. The lack of LB on tracks is also a lit down but it is alright because the online play is way better than FM5. Night races qualifying and better restrictions make up for the lack of LB.

  9. Thanks for the honest impressions guys. I’m glad to hear your comment about the rumblestrip FFB. I found it spotty in GT5. It seemed to be drowned out by the centering force if I ran over a curb in a corner. While driving straight I could feel the strips. I suspect GT6 is the same , maybe you can confirm. It does suck that the AI is still really lame. I found myself taking underpowered cars to the events in GT5 just to make it more competitive. I guess I’ll have to do that in GT6 too. Despite all that the improvements seem worth having so this one is on my Xmas list.
