gRally: New Preview Released

RBR-Online.it made its name creating quality mods for Richard Burns Rally, and in 2011, they decided to undertake a new challenge, creating a new rally sim from scratch. The result is gRally, which is being touted as an “all-terrain simulator”. After a slow trickle of development updates on their official Twitter, they have released their first preview shot of 2014.

The screenshot features the Lancia Stratos Rally Car. Powered by a 2.4L V6 from a Ferrari Dino tuned to 275 horsepower (550 horsepower in its turbocharged Group 5 spec) while weighing under 1000 kg, the car was responsible for 18 WRC victories and three championship titles throughout the 1970s and early 1980s.

Not much else has been revealed about the sim, but hopefully more will be shown as development progresses. Would you guys be excited to see another rallying sim come out in the future?

What I would like to see is a rally simulation that includes at least one event with full length stages, not just stages limited to 4-8 kilometers. If that would take too much hard-drive real estate, then individual rallies packages could be sold instead of game sequels, like “Rally of Monte Carlo”, “Rally of Finland”, Spain, Australia, Greece, all the classic rallyes, and all the new ones. Everything so far has been arcadish in approach. Richard Burns rally – good physics, but lacking in content and length. The only game I know that included a full rally was NetQ Rally, a title from the nineties, which had almost no physics.

So yeah, I’m still waiting for the big change for rally simulations; for the type of revolution that iRacing and rFactor have done for the virtual closed circuit racing on asphalt.
