Sam Maxwell Formula Custom Rim Prototype Revealed

Sam Maxwell has made a name for himself making add-on wheel plates, so you can use your MOMO or Sparco (or cheap Ebay) wheel on your sim racing setup. Now, Sam has revealed the design of his fully custom wheel rim, the Formula Custom.

Sam’s decided to go all out with his rim, with ten buttons, 8 rotary toggles, and 3 toggle switches on the rim. Instead of going after a replica of an F1 car design, he decided to strategically place the buttons in a way that would be accessible to sim racers. The display is SIM-Display’s SIM-R F1 display, which supports analog inputs.

The wheel also features four paddles, with the bottom two being progressive (which can be used for stuff like clutch, gas/brake/look). Also note that the paddles have no potentiometers, so they won’t wear out.

The wheel will also be available for different wheel setups, with a 70mm bolt pattern. There will also be a T500RS QR option (pictured). Sorry Fanatec owners, there won’t be an option for CSW/CSR-E wheels.

If you are an iRacing member, you can check out Sam’s thread here. To also check out Sam’s other wheels, and find out more info about adding buttons (and maybe paddles) to an aftermarket wheel, you can check out his official site.

Do any of you own a Sam Maxwell Custom wheel? What do you think of it?
