While we have been giving Assetto Corsa quite a bit of modding love, we may have been leaving rFactor 2 a bit in the cold. However, there are some interesting developments that are worth talking about. In this post, I will share my top 3 cars and tracks that are in progress for ISI’s sim, and then talk about some notable releases. In a bit of a change, I will cover tracks first.
TRACKS

First off, we have the famous Pikes Peak Hillclimb. However, some purists may be disappointed to hear it is the fully paved version. This course is being developed by myself9, and is looking solid so far. It is currently at version 0.85, and features support for online racing. However, AI and RealRoad have yet to be implemented.
Next up, we have one of my personal favorite circuits, Laguna Seca. This track has been developed by Mario Morais using LIDAR data, and he is doing a great job so far! The attention to detail, especially on the curbs, is amazing. This is a circuit I am definitely looking forward to seeing as time goes on. This one does not have a test release yet, but I think it will be worth the wait.

Lastly, we have Highlands Motorsport Park, being brought to rFactor 2 by Drathuu. This New Zealand based circuit is his first attempt at a scratch-based circuit, and is currently at a 0.83b beta state. So far, the track is looking good, so we can expect for some great things in the future. Drathuu also has some more circuits in the pipeline, including reworking Wellington (which he had released for rFactor), so we can expect him to churn out some solid content.
CARS

We are starting our cars section with the International Formula Series 3 mod developed by Mak-Corp. This car is based on the Formula 3 race car, and is currently in a 0.8 open beta. Three different engines are available to be selected to put in the cars, as well as two tire compounds. This car will also be ported to Mak-Corp’s World Racing Simulation, which is currently in development.
Secondly, we have an interesting project, brought to us by Klaasvh and Navigator. They took a look at ISI’s Eve F1 car, and saw potential for converting it into the Matra V12 F1 car. Historic content is some of the favored content in rFactor 2, and this makes for a great addition to the roster. Note that the mod uses some sounds from the Eve, so you need version 1.48 of that car installed.
To close off the section, we have the 2014 Seat Leon Cup Racer, made by Tommy78. This was first announced two weeks ago, and will be a “free time project”. He has made some great progress in those two weeks though, and is a cool project to look forward to.
NOTABLE RELEASES
While rFactor 2 hasn’t had much in the way of recent full releases, there is one car and one track that is worth mentioning.
F1 ASR Modding Team has released their 1992 Formula One Mod. Each car has been released individually, to allow for car updates without reinstalling the full mod. Initially this mod is using league physics (all cars have the same performance), but in the future, historically accurate physics are planned.
Our final highlight is a biggie. DJCruicky and Tosch have built upon the groundwork laid by pleclair to release version 1.70 of the Nurburgring Tourist Circuit. The track has been painstakingly revamped, to provide one of the best experiences in rFactor 2. There are also quite a few Easter Eggs around the circuit, can you find them all?
What rFactor 2 mod/track are you most looking forward to? What is your favorite piece of content? Let us know in the comments below!

wgeuze’s Zolder is already fully usable even though a bunch of trackside objects are missing. Deserves more love and recognition.
