Kunos Simulazioni has released version 0.22 of Assetto Corsa, with an extensive list of updates and improvements. One of the new additions to the sim is the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, giving us some “German Muscle”. A new track variant has been included in the Nurburgring Sprint Circuit, a popular circuit among many sim racers.
Now with the SLS AMG having tire shredding torque and power, Kunos found it necessary to improve the tire model, and they have done an incredible job with the update! The changelog states the cars feel more “direct and alive”, and I’d say that is an understatement. I will say that it almost feels like a totally different game (in a good way). I’ve been able to slide cars and no longer have the dreaded “tank slapper” rebound, and most importantly, it feels REAL.

I’m including a short video I recorded, showing the BMW Z4 GT3 navigating the Nurburgring chicane at 6x slow motion. In previous Assetto Corsa versions, the car would bounce unrealistically going over those curbs, but now I feel it could be mistaken for real footage from a race. The car just takes the curbs and bumps so authentically, it’s simply staggering!
Some other notable additions are the ability to have Leaderboard overlays (press F9 to toggle between different styles), better support for using paddle shifters on H-Pattern cars, and also more graphics and CPU adjustments. A lot of the new additions to Assetto Corsa are under the hood, in order to effectively roll out some major improvements in following updates. An intro video has also been included (which is actually the SLS AMG trailer), but can also be disabled in the settings. For the full list of what is included in the 0.22 update, check out the Changelog below.
If you haven’t got Assetto Corsa yet, now’s as good a time as ever. These updates have made the game a much more solid title, and the 1.0 update will likely be approaching quickly (Kunos has implied that Circuit de Spa Francorchamp’s progress is somewhat of a benchmark of Assetto Corsa’s development status as well). If you want to buy Assetto Corsa, you can get it from Steam’s online store.

Hope this helps, cheers AussieStig
Under a lot of pressure from Project CARS, Kunos have really taken a bold step to push an unprecedented amount of detail in their physics model. The result, sheer mastery. Kunos really need to be applauded here. Far too much negativity from most of the community should leave those criticising the sim SO FAR in shame. Project CARS, a sim that is most compared to Assetto Corsa, is working on a high budget and in a short time frame to produce an everything sim aimed at everyone at all levels. Kunos are working with a smaller budget to create a sim that is not only detailed, but perfectly executed. One thing is for sure – if Kunos have promised a feature, it will come. Not only that, but when it does it will be implemented to the highest degree possible. Although obvious to me, I am astounded at those who are seemingly emphasizing that Kunos is not listening to the community. It is obvious that Kunos is looking towards the long term in their development plan, by making sure each addition and feature will be of the highest quality for far longer than any sim produced to date. Their overwhelming support to modders is a clear sign of this. Kunos really have acheived more than I ever imagined they would, or what is indeed possible. And all that for the $30 I paid for it.
Well done Kunos. Kudos to you guys!
I use a button box with a “Pro Shift” from Sym Projects and now my tach does not work. Happens from time to time with these updates. I notified A.C. and the third party S.P. and S.P. says he will work on it this weekend. Not bad service commitment. Just wish they would think about the plug ins before they change stuff, but that won’t happen, so I have to just wait. My L.E.D. tach just lights up at 100% power. WOW! That was a surprise. But the new mercedes is nice, I guess. Have not seen much else since lights were blinding me. Maybe next week…
Well now the lights just flash slightly, so that is better.
They have the working update for Pro Shift 6.0 out. Thanks Sym Projects.
Another great update from Kunos. The changes to FFB make it feel better IMHO. People need to remember it’s an early release and that some hiccups can be expected to 3rd party mods and hardware because of this. Kunos are normally pretty quick to try and sort problems. So Kudos to Kunos.
