Ah the GT3 class. It’s currently the darling of the racing world with the class running in multiple series around the world and backed by many of the biggest manufactures in the world. This real world popularity has not been lost on the sim racing community, with multiple GT3 cars featured in nearly every sim out there today. And now there’s one more.
Kunos Simulazioni has announced that the sexy Mercedes AMG GT3 has been licensed for Assetto Corsa and will be coming to the sim in the future. It will become the seventh(!) GT3 car in Assetto Corsa, joining the BMW Z4, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Mercedes SLS, McLaren MP4-12C and the previously announced Lamborghini Huracan and Gallardo. The Mercedes AMG GT3 is RWD (like all GT3 cars) and powered by the same 6.2 liter V-8 engine in the Mercedes SLS GT3 (and sounds amazing).

Of course, this announcement may not be all roses and bunnies if you aren’t a GT3 fan. There’s certainly been some clamoring for other types of cars since there’s already four in class and two more on the way. I can understand both sides. I love GT3 racing because how approachable the cars are while still being cool. Yet, I can certainly understand those that are feeling a bit left out.
No matter how you feel, I think we can all agree on one thing. Assetto Corsa needs more tracks. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more announcements on that subject in the future.
No release date this early into the project but its suppose to be in 2015, and with the real car not being delivered to customers until the latter half of the year, could be in our hands before it turns a race lap…or not…but one can dream.

I think there are more then five GT3 cars in AC, the huracan GT3 is also confirmed, im pretty sure the audi R8 gt3 is coming as well. Well more content is more good. Either way modders will fill in the gaps well hopefully that is. As if modding was going fast enough in AC, the AWD addition dropped a nuke in the rally community with many more teams turning their sights on AC. Things are looking good for them, hopefully they sort out the AI and online while they are at it. Im glad AC is pushing their limits, it makes ISI and Sector3 thrive to be better, Rfactor2 really picked up the pace with the Kunos army mobilizing and Sector3 are finally getting their bearings and offering pretty nice content just look at that 2000RS. Another benefit is that a lot more people have joined the sim community as a result of AC’s success, i always welcome the newcomers
You’re right the Huracan and Gallardo are coming as well. Updated the post. Haven’t heard anything about the Audi. I also agree that AC has pushed the entire sim industry. I feel like iRacing also got a little pep in its step because of AC.
And what about the Ford GT GT3? I think they also mentioned it when the Ford license was revealed.
I couldnt fine evidence for that but i have heard a few people talking about it.
Cars and tracks are fine, but simplifying the method of setting up a server, changing the cars and tracks available in the server or room would be great. I have watched the video and know a couple of young guys that run the servers I use, but even they say it is complicated. But back on point, I am glad to see more race cars and not so many street cars. It started looking like Gran Turismo with all the BMW and Lotus street cars. I do want some street cars, but I like to race race cars.
