DiRT Rally Flying Finland Test Drive

Presenting our Test Drive of the new DiRT Rally Flying Finland update. Update 0.8 brings two new cars, the 2001 Subaru Impreza and Ford Focus, and one new location, Jämsä, Finland, to DiRT Rally.

In this video, John tackles one of the longer of the 12 new stages, Kakaristo, with the Subaru in Darin’s rig. The rig features the SimXperience AccuForce Pro Steering Wheel, Thrustmaster TH8A shifter, and the newly installed Fanatec ClubSport Handbrake connected to ClubSport V2 pedals.

We apologize in advance for the butchering of the Finish pronunciations.

The new Finnish stages and Subaru are very fun.  The “flying” bit of the update is certainly no joke.  No other stages in the game give you nearly the air time that Jämsä does.  On top of that, the stages are very fast and not that wide, making them unforgiving.

Watch to see if John can survive the huge airtime and bring the car back in a respectable time.

Great video John…Dirt Rally is fantastic. I might have missed it during the video but did you comment on how the Accuforce performs / feels in DR compared to a T300RS?

      1. I didn’t see him ask about the OSW.

I must have missed it. Could you point out where he asked about it?

        1. Another Needless Network

Why do I care what a dummy like you doesn’t see? “about the OSW” It’s so obvious you don’t even know what OSW means.

          1. Guy, I’ve built computers, and rebuilt motorbikes. I know what an open sim wheel is. I also know that nobody asked about it so you’re actually not answering anyone’s question.

I’ll agree with you that with the right motor, it has the potential to be better, but some people don’t want to put in the extra effort, or want something that doesn’t require dialing in out of the box, or are scared by a wheel that can literally snap their thumbs off. For them, the accuforce and the next level motion platform represent more functionality available out of a box at a price they could afford than has previously been possible.

You yourself could have bought an OSW pre-assembled for your forza setup + CSW’s cost, and lo and behold, you didn’t.

Edit: As for the original question, it’s acknowledged that the Accuforce outperforms the T300RS (“in a different league” seems to be bandied about). Regardless of whether you intend to road race, drift, or off-road-race with it. In the very worst case, it can actually be made to feel like a T300RS.

It probably won’t make a difference to your lap times, but it will potentially save a few more slides, when your lap times were going to be bad anyway.

The Accuforce is a little expensive for what it is, though. It’s not as good as direct drive motors because it uses a stepping motor, and it’s close enough to a Bodnar or OSW that people with upgraditis would typically be advised to skip the accuforce once they’re laying down that kind of cash.

          2. Apologies for feeding the troll; I won’t take offense if you want to remove my posts or would like for me to do so, but I felt like there needed to be some objective reasoning on the boards.

No problem, I almost fed him too and just decided to ban him instead. The dude was here to just start trouble and offered nothing of value to the site or community.

    1. It feels good. Certainly stronger and smoother ffb than the T300. Spent next to no time dialing it in – which is usually important – but for throwing some settings together it felt good.
