Forza Motorsport 6: Apex Coming to Windows 10 Spring 2016

Forza Motorsport 6 Apex

Turn 10 Studios and Microsoft have announced that the Forza Motorsports franchise is coming to the PC this Spring in the form of Forza Motorsport 6: Apex.  Think of Apex as a demo version of Forza Motorsport 6, highlighting 63 cars, 12 career Showcase Tours, handful of Spotlight Series and – apparently – no online mode.

So why the tease Microsoft? Because it’ll be available for free via the Windows Store on Windows 10.  Again, free.

Not only do you get to check out the excellent simcade that is Forza Motorsport 6, but you get to do so in DirectX 12 and resolutions up to 4K.  We talked in our Forza Motorsport 6 review about how much we enjoy the graphics and how impressed we were with what they could do with the so-so Xbox One hardware.  Now, we’re going to really see what the Forza graphics can do with proper hardware, and based off the trailer, we think it’s going to be beautiful.

This leads into a whole bunch of questions.  Triple monitors support?  VR?  Aspect ratios other than 16:9?  Support for non-Xbox One compatible hardware?  Support for multiple input controls (ie: connecting wheel and pedals separately to our PC)?

So many questions!

PC racing just got a whole lot more interesting.  Hopefully this is the beginning of getting entire retail versions of Forza showing up on Windows.  It could very well be a one-off to get people into the Windows Store, but maybe with the new found popularity in PC gaming – and lackluster Xbox One sales due to a seemingly low hardware ceiling – maybe this is the sign of things to come.

We hope so.
