It has been a long-requested feature by the community and iRacing has finally decided to implement it – day and night transitions are now officially in development!
What do we know?
Not so much just yet. iRacing posted a work-in-progress video on its Twitter account, showing a sunrise on the Nordschleife and a sunset and two sunrises at different locations of the Circuit des 24 Heures (Le Mans). You can check out the video in question above or below.

In a second tweet, it was noted that what can be seen in the video is only a partial implementation, since only a clear sky is shown. Volumetric clouds, dynamic exposure and even more features are being worked on right now.
This displays only a partial implementation with a clear day sky model. We are still working on volumetric clouds, dynamic exposure, etc!

This was not the first work-in-progress video iRacing showed off on Twitter. A couple of weeks ago, we also got a glimpse of the progress on upcoming rallycross content. Surely, we can expect more of the work-in-progress previews in the near future.
