iRacing’s latest episode of iRacingTV shows off their newest toy, the Leica C10 laser scanner. No its not a new car or track but it will help get those new pieces of content to you faster. The new scanner is able to scan in half the time of the old scanner and is small enough to fit inside vehicles for interior scans. It can also capture color and take photographs, which will allow for more accurate coloring and probably save the art department time since it won’t have to utilize reference photos for color matching.

The video also announced that the new for 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra trucks ran in the NASCAR Camping World Series will be scanned by the new hardware next week. Dropping new content developments in a video about a new laser scanner is a little odd but I guess we’ll take it. No word was given on whether the NASCAR Ford F-150 will be scanned or not down the road.
Even though this new piece of equipment is more of a process improvement/cost savings for iRacing than anything, I do think this could benefit us users. Now that iRacing can scan faster it may open up the possibility of scanning more temporary circuits…Monaco…wink, wink.
Either way, its a good move by iRacing to not only purchase a new scanner but to share some of the behind the scenes technologies, because us nerdy computer people like technology.

Well that is nice, but no Ford? So I guess like everything else, my garage will be full of another unused truck. No matter, I have a huge garage, it is virtual. LOL But, where is Nordschleife? When are they going to update Pocono and V.I.R.? Btw, I need to go try C.O.T.A. it had an update today. Hopefully a bit more texture.
Something tells me we’ll be seeing at least Monza and Imola before we’ll see the Green Hell.
