Sector3 Teases New Content

After teasing us Sunday with some gorgeous screenshots of the forthcoming Sonoma Raceway, Sector3 is back at it again releasing a couple of screenshots that will surely peg the speculation meter at 10.  The two screenshots show a Fabcar 935/84 and BNR32 Nissan Skyline GT-R, both goliaths back in their day.

The Porsche 935 raced around the world from 1976-1981 in the FIA Group 5 Special Production class.  The car won LeMans overall in 1979 and has wins at Daytona, Sebring and the Nurburgring.  The car featured a turbocharged flat six engine that produced up to 800 hp.

What picutred here isn’t the Porsche 935, its the 1984 Fabcar 935/84.  After the 935 was retired by Porsche, customers who wanted the car were stuck up the creek with no paddle.  So they got creative and took Porsche-sourced components and designs to American builder Fabcar and thus the 935/84 was created.

The car was a bit of a Frankenstein of 935 parts.  It had a Kremer K4 nose, K3 front setup and a ‘Moby Dick’ rear end.  Even with the mish-mash of parts, its seemed to work competing at the Daytona 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours.

Clearly a clever way around a Porsche license…

The BNR32 Nissan Skyline GT-R was introduced into Group A competition in 1990.  The car was ran out of Nissan’s NISMO branch in Japan making it a full fledge factory effort and it did quite well, including winning the Bathurst 1000.  With a twin-turbo I6 producing 600 hp and 4WD, I’m not that surprised.

The question becomes, how exactly are these two cars going to be morphed into R3E?  Are they independent cars?  Possibly, but why would they be teased together?  Maybe its for a ‘classic experience’ expansion?  This would make more sense but the cars certainly wouldn’t be able to compete against one another like previous experiences/packs – DTM current, classic, ADAC and WTCC – since they’re at least eight years apart and come from very different series.

So what are we getting?  Guess we’ll just have to wait and see (but rampant speculation in the comments section is encouraged).

  1. Sorry, don’ think so. ADAC – do you know how many classes/series there are….?
    – Please update yourselves a bit :-/

  2. At any rate, I like the Porsche or Fabcar pictured above. I did buy the Mustang. It is fairly similar to the racing Mustangs of the era and run with other cars in that DTM.
