iRacing+IMSA=?
During the role out of the Season 1 2014 schedule yesterday, iRacing’s Steve Myers noted that the current Grand Am series would be temporarily renamed as the iRacing World Sports Car Series. Of course, this change is due to the real life American Le Mans Series merging into the Grand Am Series and being renamed as the Tudor United SportsCar Champsionship. As far as the series going forward, Steve said:
“With IMSA entering a new chapter in 2014, so are we here at iRacing as we work with IMSA to create a more robust experience/opportunities for iRacing members in the online sports car racing space. Please stay tuned as we finalize the future of online sports car racing with our friends at IMSA.”
So what could this mean? Will it just be a branding deal like the Grand Am series was? Will iRacing update the cars to reflect the current real life classes? A GT Academy like competition to drive an IMSA car?

iRacing Season 1 Build/Daytona 2.4 Update
Steve Myers (busy guy) had this to say about the Season 1 build and Daytona 2.4 today:
“Testing and tuning on the new build is going very well but in an effort to put the final touches on it AND get the 2.4 race off this weekend we are going to tentatively shoot to deploy the new build on Monday.
One change I have to make is to swap out the C-Spec car with the track car. We needed the build to go out to change the gearing of the car to be able to run in the 2.4. So as a compromise we will use the track version of the car in the 2.4.
Qualifying sessions will launch today.”
Unsuprisngly, the eleventh hour (ok, maybe 9th hour) change to the track RUF rubbed members who had been practicing with the C-Spec car the wrong way but at least we’re less likely to see half the field roll-over in turn 1, lap 1…
