The legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife has been somewhat touted as the “holy grail” for sim racing in recent years, with nearly every sim having some rendition of the circuit. That has admittedly made some in the iRacing community a little jealous, with them wanting their own version of the Green Hell. Last month, we speculated about the possibility of the Nurburgring being scanned when a mobile scanning unit was spotted entering the circuit. Now, we have an official announcement: the Nurburgring will be coming to iRacing next year!
This major announcement kicks off the weekend of the Nurburgring 1000, sponsored by iRacing. While that race will only be held on the GP-Strecke (3.2 mi) course, that will not be the only circuit coming to the sim. Yes, brace yourself, the 12.9 mile Nordschleife is coming! Commonly referred to as the “Green Hell”, the circuit’s 154 unique corners are bound to create a unique challenge for sim racers. This will definitely be an interesting step forward for iRacing, featuring a fully laser-scanned version of the legendary circuit for its members to race on.
To celebrate the partnership with the legendary circuit, iRacing is offering free 3-month memberships to all new members. Just check out www.iracing.com/nurburgring1000/ to take advantage of this great deal, and begin your iRacing career!

Can’t wait. *counting coins to buy it on iracing*
This is by far the most requested track! I’m thinking it will be the most expensive to purchase but that is understandable. This must be a massive project for them but I do wonder if the size of this track will possibly cause lower frame rates or big frame drops in certain sections. Playing it with the current damage model is going to be one heck of a long tow ride… hehe
Wow. Impressive. But honestly it’s not one of my favorite tracks. I’ll admit, it’s just too damn hard. LOL
I’m kinda with Daniel Gingras, on this as, will it Hurt our Frame Rates? =( I like the Track-A Lot. But, I’ll have to wait to see What OR How it Effects the FPS on our PC’s. If it doesn’t Hurt to Much I’ll be Jumping In With Both Feet to buy it….=) As, I Really Like the Track in Assetto Corsa =)
In iRacing you can really adjust the scenery down to near nothing and still have a great track. I went with a GTX780 3gb video card but with triples I still have to turn a lot of the scenery down. I have faith the iRacing version will be good even with all the settings way down though. I have found in some games, I was turning too much down and as long as it is above 60 fps it is usually really good. My problem is loading time is a bit long in some other games. But it all works out in the end.
Count me in – love the challenge – AC’s (snoopy) will be a hard act to follow but I have a good feeling about this project…. At the risk of sounding like the eternal optimist, I am confident iRacing will optimise the graphics so that we can all enjoy everything with a descent frame rate…
I am definitely buying that track. Assetto Corsas’ version is fun, but iRacing will be accurate. Closest I will ever get to the real thing. Hopefully they widen V.I.R. and smooth Pocono soon.
AC version is a fan made mod, the real laser scanned version will come later 😉
I do have to say Project Cars raised the bar with their version.
WOW!! This will be amazing. I love the driving joy/feel and immersion of the rFactor 2 version, the AC version is also great, but in terms of the detail and fidelity of the physical track itself, the iRacing version is just going to kill everythig else out there. IRacing has the best tracks in all lf simracing, PERIOD.
Too bad I’ll probably never get to play it as paying $15 – $20 for one single track (let alone other tracks, let alone cars, let alone subscription fees to just be able to play the game at all) – when entire other sims with tons of cars and tons of tracks with arguably better pure physics (and definitely better FFB) cost just $20 – $85 – just isn’t for me 🙁
