iRacing Basic Training 9 Released – Keeping Your Cool

iRacing has released the latest video in their Basic Training series, this time taking a look at when things don’t exactly go your way. In racing, especially sim racing, there are a lot of external factors we have to fight, like latency, glitches, also just the other guys. When things happen to you, it’s always best to keep your cool.

The video talks about what could be considered as proper conduct when trivial circumstances arise. Many racers have the tendency to immediately key the mic after a wreck and blow up at whoever else was involved, while that may not be the best idea. It is recommended to analyze what happened in the replay, away from the racing, and then civilly apologize if it was your fault.

Bryan Blackford also gives us a look at the benefits of keeping a cool head, namely in forming relationships. If you don’t rustle too many feathers, fellow racers may start to like you and could lead to building friendships and joining teams. Opportunities in real racing are also  a possibility for successful sim racers, but scouts are looking for calm drivers, not ones who would trash their equipment.

The most important thing to remember is, you’re racing against real people, that aren’t always perfect. Mistakes happen, but it’s how you deal with them that will affect how much you enjoy racing. Have you ever had a crazy situation where you lost your cool or was the victim of someone else?
