Assetto Corsa – Formula Corsa GP2 Mod Released

The third car, and first complete racing series has been released for Assetto Corsa. GP2, a relatively underrepresented series in racing sims, has been brought to Kunos’ sim by Formula Corsa Modding (FCM).

FCM was formerly part of F1ASR, but some of the core members broke away to form a new modding group.Their GP2 mod was developed with input from Raffaele Marciello, the reigning European F3 champion. The mod will contain all the regular drivers from the GP2 season. The cars feature a fully animated steering wheel and suspension, as well as custom sounds. A low res texture pack is also available to download, for improved performance on lower-end machines.

Judging from community interest, Formula Corsa has plans for 2014 F1, FR3.5, and GP3 mods following the GP2 release. There may be a chance that a F1 teaser may be released by the next race weekend, for AC owners to give a try.

Hey thanks for the mod. The pic of f1 mod, please see the fia rules. Front suspension its to small on the front. You can sse this on rfactor 2 marussia f1 greets mike

  2. A Great and Fun Mod. I gave it a quick run and I like it. IS THE COBRA REALLY COMING OUT TOMORROW? I can’t wait for this one. 🙂

  3. Looks like a quality reproduction of the car. GT6 version is going to be a hard car to beat. But this one should give it a solid trouncing. I hope… It is a great car.

  4. The GP2 car is pretty darned cool. I have some trouble with my video on Nord 1.0 is started acting like it was freezing at times. I have done laps faster but from inside cockpit, so it could be I have graphics too high. I liked the sound so I did not download the “Backfire package.” I did not download the lo res pack either, I have a GTX780 3 Gb vid card and 3.4Hhz pro-speed on a 120Hz tv, so I should be smoother than what I am seeing, so back to tuning. The bane of pc racers…

Sorry to say, but that does not even come close to sound like a GP2 car. Very disappointing, that needs to be redone completely. GP2 cars sounds great, try to see onboard video from youtube. A real GP2 car is a basy V8 not a small wasp locked in a coke glass.

    1. I agree that the sound is lacking. Overall the mod feels really good (nice FF on my Elite), but it lacks the “fierce” sound I’ve experienced in person with this type of car. Of course this is version 0.9.1, so it’s likely there will be a sound update–either the original developer will receive enough complaints, or someone else will offer some “copy-and-replace” files.

    1. Download 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/), then right-click on the archive (either zip or rar), move your mouse/pointer to the 7z menu, and select “open archive.” This opens the archive in a 7z window, and you can view it’s contents. Leave the 7z window open. Then, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the appropriate directory for Assetto Corsa (C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonassettocorsacontent). Then drag the folder in the 7z window to the correct location in the Explorer window. This particular update goes in the “cars” folder. Tracks (logically) are copied to the “tracks” folder. For other mods, see virtualr.net, racedepartment.com, or nogripracing.com.

  6. I appreciate the work they did on the car, but I hope they continue to work on it. In my lowly opinion, the car rides very rough and seems to be too lightweight. If you can fix it more great, if not I still appreciate your work. It is not designed for Nordschleife anyways.

    1. Feels good for a 0.9.1 version, but it still needs some tweaking on the physics (and new sound). While running laps around Yas Marina, I clipped a wall a couple of times, and the car went into a ridiculous “fit” of spins and flips. Of course this may also be due to AC still being in development as well.

Overall I think it’s looking good so far, and I appreciate the opportunity to try it out.

      1. Yeah, I am slowly figuring out how the set ups work. It is smoothing out. You need to stay on the asphalt on some of the tracks still. They are not finished yet. Nut the GP2-ish cars are pretty cool. Just have to spend more time setting up the cars to fit the tracks.

    1. The first two are “required.” Install the first one (various instructions below), then copy the folder from the second one inside the folder you just installed. You’ll be asked if you want to merge folders, and “copy and replace” all the files. Allow everything.

The second two are optional. Personally, the backfire isn’t that important as I’m sure all the sound will be replaced anyway. The low-res textures are needed if your PC is having problems (low frame rate) while driving these cars. If your PC is bogging down, download it and follow the same procedure above to overwrite the original high-res textures.

I installed the low-res textures, and they look just fine–and it doesn’t really matter much if you’re in the cockpit.

  7. I am looking forward to playing with the Cobra and the GP2 cars!
    : )

I did not know that FCM members split off from F1ASR. A few days ago I could not figure our why one of the guys at FCM was making negative comments about F1ASR and later editing their comments until I read this entry. LOL makes sense now… hope all is well between FCM and F1ASR at least on a professional level.
