Assetto Corsa Coming to Console in 2016

Mic dropped.  Kunos Simulazioni have announced that Assetto Corsa will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016.

Were to begin?  Lets start with the logistics.  Kunos is teaming up with California based 505 Games to bring the PC title to the PS4 and Xbox One.  How does an Italian developer get teamed up with one based in California?  Well, 505 is a division of Digital Bros S.p.A, an Italian company.  505 catalog of published games includes Payday 2, Sniper Elite III and ARMA.

Now the video.  As you can see, this launch video contains a bunch of new content.  Audi R8 GT3, Lamborghini Countach, Glickenhaus SCG 003, Toyota FRS and a certain F1 car that brings Kunos’s old title, Ferrari Virtual Academy, to mind…  It’s a good trailer, and I’m sure it’ll impress those who aren’t already familiar with Assetto Corsa.

Now the implications.  While I’m already seeing a lot of PC gamers screaming that the sky is falling, I think this is a good thing.  I expect Assetto Corsa to be very popular on the console.  It will be a strong rival to Project CARS.

I also think the console may streamline some of the title’s rough spots.  I’m sure career mode will be improved.  Same goes with multiplayer that is currently a little messy and fragmented from modding on the PC.

My hope is that improvements in the console will trickle to the PC.  Plus, receiving another $60 per game on the console (or whatever it’ll sell for) is a nice boost to the studio, strengthening it.  That’s good for us.

What are your thoughts?  Good or is the sky falling?

  1. Mixed feelings on this going to console, it will be nice for the computer challenged to be able to play the game…

  2. Not buying it. Wish I hadn’t on pc too lol. Is there any way at all to map the menu navigation in the pc version to buttons or a dpad? Even a keyboard would work. Assetto corsa is pure misery for me having to use a mouse for everything except driving. Plus the on screen pop up for all the extra stuff while driving is just pointless without a way to navigate using buttons or a wheel dpad. Iracing got it right on everything. Pcars got it right, at least with menu navigation. I don’t think console racers are gonna be as tolerant if the game doesn’t get polished up and a bit more streamlined. Too many irritating things in that game. You can change the post processing filter in race, but not the ffb level? I can go semi slick for tires, or below, but not above? Stuff like that. Lol. Just my 2 cents though. Iracing spoiled me for real sim racing on pc. Its brilliant. Gran turismo and forza spoiled me for “sim driving for fun” on console. Itl be interesting to see how the port goes for AC
