Ever wondered what it would be like to drive Fred Flintstone’s rag top? Wonder no further, there is now a Flintstones car in Assetto Corsa! Whilst browsing the sim racing pages on FaceBook, I came across this pretty convincing looking rendering of Fred’s foot-powered rock mobile from sim racer, Lee Jason McRae. I asked Lee to send me a few images of the car and how he came about the idea to model the car for Assetto Corsa!
Lee Jason McRae’s story on how the Flintstone car came to be:
I saw a meme about Flintstones car being compared to a Peugeot, and thought “Hey, that car would be damn hilarious in AC” Told my buddy we need it in AC, he agree’d.
Took me about an hour to model it, another 45 minutes to texture it. After which I sent it to my buddy Maksim at MDesign for him to start the work on the nodes and physics etc.
We soon realised we had a huge issue, the front ‘Roller/wheel’, in the cartoon, doesn’t turn left or right. So after Maksim and I ran through a absolute ton of theories to make this car work in game (We are dedicated idiots haha), we came up with one theory that should work.
Maksim got done what he needed to do, got it out on track for some testing, ran some ideas and problems through me and then we (more he) fixed it.
It was a absolute laugh modelling and designing something new, we just hope people have a good laugh throwing it around the track for a bit, that’s the main reason we did it.
