GamerMuscle has been pumping out some cool videos lately, showing off different titles with the Oculus Rift DK2. A few days ago he featured Live For Speed, and now he’s taking a look at Project CARS with the VR headset. He has published two videos, first off with the Ariel Atom at Brands Hatch, and then he took the BMW Z4 GT3 to Laguna Seca.

Note that this video was choppy due to some issues with recording. However, he decided to keep the video to show a genuine first reaction.
I gotta say, this appears to be one of the most immersive experiences in sim racing, and honestly makes me want to drive using a VR headset. I’d still be a little nervous figuring out how to operate things, such as my button box, but if there is some solution developed to sort out that complication, we could be seriously looking at the next level of immersion in video games.

I also know that some people have been put off of the Rift due to Facebook’s acquistion of Oculus VR, but if I remember correctly, there was an article a couple months ago assuring that Facebook will have a minimal involvement in the headset. Whether that will stay true or not is a question only time will tell.
Are you looking forward to getting the Oculus Rift? Would you rather wait for the CV1 to drop next year, or jump on the DK2? Let us know in the comments!

I’ll be waiting for the CV1 I think.
I’m at the stage where i have my pc setup and rig for sim racing as well as other pc gaming where I need to interchange. I’m looking then jumping to a stand alone rig with my pc and have been considering triple screens with that move. However, as I have no button boxes – I think I’ll just jump to the Occulus one because it looks amazing, and two – it’s actually cheaper than buying 3 screens.
I think this Oculus Rift is probably one of the Coolest thing to come along Really. I just don’t think I could stand it Hang’in on my face for long. I think the weight of it would drive me a little “BUGIE” to be Honest. I like the idea of what it does though. Things look really Neat in it…..But, again it hang’in on my head 🙁
is any one else feeling this at my age I wear reading glasses, I own trackir5pro and have for about three years. And I can not stand any thing like that closing my face off from what is in front of me. Stuff like wheel and button box’s that I payed a lot of money for. No this OR is to me over rated and I do wish that they would allow the tir5 to work in their sim like it dose in all the other sim’s. It used to, now it barely moves and if it is not fixed so it works like it dose in rfactor2 and iRacing then good. But the way it is going I think I want my money back when it comes to AC or fix it so my shit works. Cheers
Designers both on the software side and at Oculus are working on a fix where your button boxes and peripherals will sit in the car/cockpit with you. It would be a software implementation to add the ability to do this though. They are hoping that eventually your hands will be tracked and you would be able to track your hand movement 1:1 to your button box. That way it won’t be made obsolete.
When it comes to whether or not it’s overrated, you really need to try it for yourself before you make a decision. The exitement that GamerMuscle is showing here is real. I have both the OR DK1 and DK2 and I am enamored. It has provided the coolest experiences of anything I’ve ever tried in gaming and yet it’s still in it’s infancy and barely works half the time since it’s still in development. Lot’s of software doesn’t work properly with it, and yet the experience is still amazing. I say this and. i. game. a. lot.
iRacing on the OR DK1 was amazing. You just can’t see far enough into the distance because of it’s poor tracking and resolution (compared to the dK2) and it will only get better for the technology. I’ve been playing a lot of Live For Speed and even that old tired game is brought to life with the DK2. I wish I had bought into PCars just to try it out with the Rift DK2.
