It is no secret that Kazunori Yamauchi, the founder of the Gran Turismo franchise is a huge Nurburgring fan and a real life race driver. This year Kaz participated in the 44th running of the Nurburgring 24-hour race piloting the Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3. In honour of the event, a superbly produced Gran Turismo documentary ”Made From Reality” has been released.
The 18 minute documentary takes us on a journey from the initial development and testing of the BMW M6 GT3 up to lights out and ultimately, the checkered flag 24 hours later. It is also peppered with interviews, insights and references to Gran Turismo. Although most of the documentary contains audio recorded in several different languages, there are English subtitles throughout its duration.
A confirmation that should make Gran Turismo fans very happy indeed, is that the BMW M6 GT3 will be featured in the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport. In watching the ”Made From Reality” documentary, the eagle-eyed amongst us might have noticed during the footage of the GT simulator that the Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 makes an appearance on GT Sport’s version of the Nordschleife!
The documentary is a great testament to the dedication and hard work that goes into preparing and racing a top class entrant at the gruelling Nurburgring 24 hour race. During some of the interviews with Kazunori we are also given some interesting insights on just what goes into extracting information from the real car to be implemented in the game so as to make the title as realistic as possible.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Gran Turismo Sport will be available for the PlayStation 4 on November 15th in North America and November 18th in Europe.
