Your annual opportunity to become a real-life racing driver is back.  PlayStation, Gran Turismo and Nissan have teamed up again for the 7th year to bring you GT Academy.  The worldwide competition starts now.

The qualifying competition featuring in-game challenges on Gran Tursimo 6 runs until June 16th for those 18 and over.  The 2015 edition of the competition is divided into three geographic regions; Europe (France, Italy, Germany, UK, Iberia (Spain, Portugal), Benelux (Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg) and CEE (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic), International (USA, Australia, Mexico, Egypt, Algeria, Turkey) and Asia (Japan, India, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia).

Oddly, Brazil has been left out of the competition this year, after being added last year.  Last year’s other big addition, Australia, returns.

Unlike in previous years were the European ‘Race Camp’ was held on home soil in Silverstone, this year, it will be held at Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.  Why are the European’s leaving the historic Silverstone Circuit for a very ‘meh’ track in the Middle East?  Probably TV.  As in the past, this year’s GT Academy will be filmed and aired at a later date and I’m sure the pretty lights of Yas Marina are very attractive to the production team.

No matter where the 2015 winner is from, I’m sure they will continue in their veteran classmate’s shoe steps and take on the racing world like they have been racing their whole life.  With drivers in Le Mans, F3, and GT3 racing, GT Academy winners have shown they have what it takes.  Do you?

  1. Kind of funny to see them move to a track that is not in Gran Turismo. Should be interesting to see if the drivers admit to playing other games that have the track.
