The guys at Team Radicals have posted a comparison between the real world version of Bathurst or Mount Panorama and iRacings new version that I did a “Test Drive” of the other day. I sure have been running a lot of it ever since. I think I may tonight as a matter of fact. So has Empty Box it seems, more on that in a second.
First up, Bathurst in an F1 car ! Awesome! Also amazing at how close to reality the iRacing version is. You can really see it in all the elevation changes.
Now to Empty Box, or one extreme to another. I say that because he’s running Bathurst in the Spec Racer ford and seems to be having a lot of fun. He’s pretty quick too as I was in the same car running in the low 2:40s. “Empty” runs a 2:39 and a race below. He also included a link to a setup.

Empty Box: Best feature overall is indeed the 2048 car skins, that is 4x the resolution as before! SRF is good fun. I’ve since improved my lap times to down into the 2:40s, though I’m hunting the 39s. I’m determined to get it. Bathurst is one of the most fun tracks around in this car, the entire downhill is all about going as fast as you possibly can, as if you go slow… well…. you die. Hitting the Dipper just right is amazing, compared to the rFactor versions it’s straighter, which FLINGS the car around the corner, over the curbing on the next corner. Hit it right…. OMFG that is awesome. Scrape the wall of the left of the dipper and the right of the next corner ever so slightly = BADASS.
If you head to the description of his video, he also reviews iRacing’s latest build. Next he runs a set of laps and gets down to 1:39 in th Spec Racer.

Empty Box: Murph’s review of this lap : “I left a couple of tenths up there”. No really, not that great through the Cutting, bit too wide, overdrove the entry. 39.6 as optimal right now. I was excited to get into the 39s. I’ve seen a couple guys in the 40s, several in the 41s… but I’d say this is a lap I’m happy to upload. This was lap 9 in this race, I won from 29th on the grid while 5 SRFs qualified and started up front. I was flyin’ 🙂 Setup : Certainly bad fast around Bathurst… I suggest adding some rear toe in if you are struggling with stability, particularly when coming downhill, but it will slow you down on the straight!http://members.iracing.com/
