Since the announcement of the new Time Attack mode, we have not heard anything regarding iRacing’s new UI or game mode. However, it seems that it is now only a matter of days until both are released. iRacing has even provided a video with its Senior VP of Technology Chris Page discussing the game’s new features. You can check it out above.
The new “Scorpio” UI
iRacing’s new user interface, which was called “Scorpio” internally, will be released later this week. Mind you though, it is still considered a preview. Users will have the choice between old and new, as it was the case with DirectX 9 and 11. Since there is still a lot to do, improvements will be added over time.
Scorpio will introduce a drastic visual overhaul to the menus of iRacing, which can now be accessed from the web, as well as from the application on your desktop. In fact, you will be able to seamlessly jump from one race to another without even leaving the actual application.
The video also gives us some technical insights. For example, when looking at race results in the past, they had to be queried and compiled from the database, which takes time. Now, they are only compiled once and are then cached as a static page, which does not need to be compiled anymore => You get your results quicker!
Time Attack
Finally, you will be able to race for yourself against the clock in iRacing. The new game mode will allow you to post personal-bests, get them ranked and even download the ghosts from other drivers to be rendered in your session.
To see what UI and Time Attack will exactly bring to the sim, we will still have to wait a couple of more days.
For now, here is a comparison between the old and new UI, taken from the video.
