iRacing: New GT3 Series Coming Soon

Steve Myers of iRacing has announced that starting in Season 1 of 2014, iRacing will have it’s first road racing series with different makes competing in the same class.

The iRacing GT3 Series, which will be a class B series, will include the new RUF RT12R Track Spec Race Car, and the McLaren MP4-12C (which will be replaced by RUF’s C-Spec Car in the Grand Am Series), with the BMW Z4 GT3 joining them upon the car’s release. The C-Spec will also feature its own independent series at the C class level.

I tested both the McLaren and the RUF at Sonoma’s Long configuration, and the laptimes were only 1 tenth of a second apart, which will likely make for some close racing! It will also be interesting to see the variety in drivetrains (the McLaren is a midship-engined car, while the RUF has the engine mounted in the rear) and how that affects driving.

We can expect to see this new class in iRacing when the new build is released later this month.
