Project CARS is looking to be one of the most diverse racing games around, featuring all kinds of racing disciplines and series. They have announced another discipline coming to Slightly Mad Studios’ title: Karting.
Karting is widely regarded as the beginning chapter of an aspiring racer’s career, be it on the road or oval side. These small but surprisingly fast karts provide a learning experience, teaching racers driving techniques, as well as how to tweak a vehicle to get the most out of it. Project CARS is looking to simulate aspects of karting, featuring two types of karts out of the box:
- 125cc Shifter – A good entry point for many racers, but is also not a slouch. Great for racing on short courses.
- 250cc Superkarts- These beasts will throw you back in your virtual seat, as you are rocketed to speeds upwards of 160 mph!
I feel that karting is a tough thing to simulate, but can also be a blast if done accurately. Since karts do not have suspensions, chassis and tire flex is paramount to creating an authentic experience. However, we have seen an influx of karting-related content for sims, with Game Stock Car, rFactor 2, and now Project CARS having go-karts. I’ve given them a go in PCARS a couple months ago, and I felt that there was quite a bit of potential, so hopefully Slightly Mad can do a good job. I personally would have loved to see a single-speed kart as well, but hopefully we can see it as post-release content.
What are your thoughts on karting coming to Project CARS? Let us know in the comments!

I’ll probably race each class once to check them out. Might also be nice for a carer mode.
I think the karts in rF2 are fantastic but, and I was hooked on them when they were first released. But, now, I hardly ever touch them anymore.
I kinda like the kart’s. I have 4 of them Assetto Corsa and I like to run them, they’re pretty cool in my thinking. I’ve just got in to GSCE also and they have some as well. But, I haven’t tried them as of yet. But, Looking forward to it.
The best and closest group of friends I developed in sim racing, was the ones with the single gear 125cc karts in GT5, the shifters in GT6 are okay but never really resonated like the ones in GT5. Although that is where I am back to in the evening this Winter til Project Cars comes out…
Looking forward to it. I just built my 2 year old son a simrig and I figure he should start at the virtual bottom of simracing. Karting! Also, karting would be great fun for his dad and co. too. Simple pure racing.
