New Developments in the Fanatec Camp

Fanatec has sure been busy, with three announcements in the past week!

First off, Fanatec has unveiled a new rim, and this one’s unique: it is a full standalone rim, not part of the new “universal hub” ecosystem. The new Porsche 918 RSR Wheel Rim was first teased in the Clubsport Shifter’s Introduction Video (50 second mark), and was widely speculated in the online community. Officially licensed by Porsche, the rim is a 1:1 replica 320mm size, and is wrapped in automotive grade leather. The rim features 11 buttons, a 7-way rotary encoder, and an analog joystick. The 3-digit display is also included, this time with white digits. The RPM LEDs are at the top of the wheel, to keep them in line with your eyes. A blend of carbon fiber and metal makes this rim weigh 2.96 kg, a full nearly .6 kg lighter than the BMW GT2 rim! The 918 RSR Rim is available now for $399.99.

Fanatec has updated their website to include all the latest products available. As of right now, most products are either released or on the way later this month. The Fanatec Clubsport Universal Hub is $249.99, and each rim is $99.99. You can also get a rim and hub together for $349.

Last but not least, Fanatec has released the latest drivers and firmware for the Clubsport Wheel/Shifter. The latest driver is v200, and the firmware is 053. The new firmware adds support for the newest rims, and helps resolve the “center bump” and centering issues. The latest driver also includes support for using the Clubsport Handbrake with the USB adapter. The driver can also automatically load the latest firmwares to your Clubsport Wheel. You can download the latest driver and firmware here.

The product page put the 918’s rim weight at 2.96 kg. The reason I didn’t use the Fanatec Blog’s information was because I knew for a fact that the BMW GT rim is NOT 2.12kg, it’s 3.5kg, so I based my information on what part of the site had a more reliable track record.

  1. Pfffft! It be nice if their products lasted more than 2 years. Everything I’ve gotten from them is either broken or defective. Including the BMW rim (The pins started falling out right after I got the base fixed), The F1 rim, the CSW base, the CSW shifter anad the Porche GT3 wheel. Those expensive prices should come with a lot more reliability. I’m back to using my Logitech G25 wheel, which I actually get better performance out of. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but as soon as I get one thing fixed something else becomes defective. Service from them also leaves alot to be desired.

  2. …and they’d better come clean about a direct servo wheel soon, too. Theres a check with Accuforce’s name on it over here. I’m over the 2 week lead time on email responses with Fanatec.

    1. I think they’re a ways out from direct drive and he was trying to hype it to sway people from the Accuforce. Just my opinion of course. My opinion also says go Accuforce for direct drive. I know they have put a lot of time and effort on the development both on the hardware and software side. Should be an awesome wheel based on the prototype I’ve driven a few times now.

so basically Fanatec, having jumped the shark about 30 times by now, turned around and decided to try jumping the shark on fire.

  4. Hello, I am thinking about to buy Thrustmaster T500 F1, or Fanatec ClubSport Wheel Base with formula wheel. What do you thing about this wheels? Which is better? Thanks
