French modding studio, Pixsim Modding, the studio responsible for the Nogaro circuit in rFactor 2, have revealed their latest modding project, which is again destined for rFactor 2. The modding team are currently working on bringing us a new laser scanned historic GP circuit, a true blast from the past, the former French GP circuit, Circuit Clermont-Ferrand, Charade.
The circuit is being constructed with the invaluable aid of laser scanning technology, which will ensure a highly accurate reproduction of the 8.055 km or 5.005 mile long circuit. Constructed in 1958, the Circuit Clermont-Ferrand, Charade was home to the French Grand Prix in 1965, 1969-1970 and 1972.
In 1989, the old circuit was reduced in size to 3.975 km or 2.470 miles and is still being used today as a testing ground as well as for driver training schools. Looking at the circuit’s original layout, it is easy to draw the comparison between the old Nordschleife and the French circuit. In its hay day, it was described as being an even twister and faster version of the infamous German circuit by several drivers of that era.
Circuit Clermont-Ferrand, Charade for rFactor 2 will include two differing circuit layouts when it is released. The main layout will be the 1972 version of the circuit, accompanying that will be a fictional version of the circuit, which will look as if it were still in use as a permanent racing circuit in the present day.
The History Of Circuit Clermont-Ferrand, Charade:
*The Circuit de Charade (also known as Circuit Louis Rosier and Circuit Clermont-Ferrand) is a motorsport race track in the Auvergne mountains in France near Clermont-Ferrand, the home of Michelin and Patrick Depailler.
Built in 1958 around the sides of an extinct volcano, the originally 8.055 km (5.005-mi) long Charade was described as an even twistier and faster version of the Nürburgring. Some drivers like Jochen Rindt in the 1969 French Grand Prix complained of motion sickness, and wore open face helmets, just in case. But 1970 was no better- Rindt was hit in the face by a rock, something that the circuit was usually littered with, and often caused punctures on the track.
The French Grand Prix motorcycle racing events were held at Charade from 1959 to 1967, and 1972 to 1974.
