Codemasters – DiRT Rally Gaining PlayStation VR Support

Codemaster’s Dirt Rally is about to gain Playstation VR support! The studio is announcing that this support is only weeks away for owners of the Playstation VR HMD. They further state the game will be updated for the new support and will include all aspects of the original title. For an indication of how the game will look, Codemasters posted a short video with some direct in-game VR capture to YouTube this past week.

Playstation VR supported racing titles are a little thin on the ground right now, GT Sport has not yet been released and will only have limited content supported by VR. As of today there is only one official racing / driving game available, DriveClub VR! With its release, DriveClub VR was the only racing title released in 2016 for Sony’s new VR headset. Gran Turismo Sport was the other racing title touted to have VR support, unfortunately the extremely popular franchise has been delayed until sometime this year.

Dirt Rally VR should appeal to most driving fans, as there is a mixture of hard and soft surfaces on which to race in VR. Rally cross, for instance, should be a lot of fun in wildly overpowered cars, driving on loose surfaces and transitioning to tarmac will call for differing skill sets when racing. Once a fixed release date has been announced, ISRTV will keep you all informed.

Codemaster’s YouTube description of their upcoming Playstation VR support:

We’re delighted to announce that we’ll be adding PlayStation VR support to DiRT Rally in the coming weeks! The PS VR functionality will give you a fully immersive off-road experience, with the upgraded game supporting every car, every route and every discipline within DiRT Rally.

As well as allowing you to drive any of the stunning Rally, Rallycross and Hillclimb cars in full VR, the update to DiRT Rally will enable a game-changing second player to join in on the fun. Using a DUALSHOCK 4® controller, the second player will take the on the role of co-driver – using the social screen to understand when to send calls to the driver using the DUALSHOCK 4 buttons and touchpad. Making those calls at the right time will be the difference between the driver hearing the correct information at the right time, so it’s crucial that this is executed properly!
