Remember World’s Fastest Gamer, an event seeking the world’s fastest sim racer to become a part of McLaren? Good. Because now, McLaren has announced details regarding the first of four qualifying events. If not, you can head right here for our initial-announcement blog

The first World’s Fastest Gamer Qualifying Event

The game of choice will be rFactor 2. The whole event will kick off together with the Silverstone Grand Prix on July 16 and will continue for the following 4 weeks on the virtual Silverstone Circuit. “The top 20 drivers, [most likely of a Time Trial event, the press release did not go into detail here,] will race each weekend [and will collect] points counting towards the Silverstone championship. The eventual winner will be given a place in the finale.”

Keep in mind that all events are held online, so everyone who owns rFactor 2 will have a chance of securing one of the four places in the finale. As we know, the other six places in the finale will be awarded to pre-selected drivers. “Choices will be made by a panel of gaming and motorsport experts, including specialists from [McLaren’s] gaming partners Logitech G and Sparco Gaming”.

In its World’s Fastest Gamer Q&A, McLaren mentions that iRacing, Project CARS, Forza and Gran Turismo will be amongst the other titles, which will play a role in the competition, either for the pre-selection of candidates or the qualifying events. However, no further details are available right now.

Here is what Zak Brown, McLaren Technology Group Executive Director Zak Brown, had to say:

Silverstone is a venue that’s synonymous with motorsport and is a great place to kick off our virtual racing contest. We’re looking forward to working together with Silverstone to help bring a new and younger audience into the motorsport world.
