Berney Villers, Jr of SimXperience has been helping us get a deeper look into how wheels work via his blog. In his latest entry, he gives us a firsthand look at firmwares, and how they will work in his AccuForce Pro Simulation Steering System.
READ “THE ACCUFORCE PRO – IT’S FOUR WHEELS IN ONE”
This post is definitely an interesting read, and it shows how SimXperience is planning to revolutionize how firmwares work in wheels. One of the common complaints I’ve seen in hardware forums is when a new firmware drops for a wheel, fixes some problems, but introduces a new variety of issues. Wheel feel can also be a subjective element, with some people preferring more force feedback than others. Sometimes, you may even want to change wheel settings from car to car!
SimXperience is looking to tackle this issue by introducing a dynamic firmware and “Wheel Modes”. What this essentially will do is give you multiple “presets”, that will cater to different driving styles. For example, you can have a setup for open wheel cars that feels tight and precise, but with a couple clicks of the mouse, you can switch to a looser steering setup, more akin to a stock car steering assembly. One thing I think would be cool, is if there is a way to set your own Wheel Mode, catering to your own preferences in addition to the presets SimXperience provides, which I feel will be the case.
For more information on the Berney’s vision for Wheel Modes, I highly recommend you check out the blog post, and provide your own feedback on the SimXperience page!
In a related topic, Berney Villers has announced a new contest, with the AccuForce Pro Wheel as the prize! The contest will be open until December 19th, when the winner will be announced. The rules of entry are simple: all you need to do is like SimXperience’s Facebook Page, and then fill out the contest entry form. This is a great opportunity for one lucky sim racer to get a quality piece of kit to add to his or her collection! NOTE: You have to be 18 or older to enter.
Are you going to enter in the SimXperience contest? Let us know in the comments!

The ability to save presets with different configurations for different driving styles and games isn’t new, isn’t that what Fanatec been doing for years on their wheels? It is my favorite feature on Fanatec wheels the ability to quickly adjust settings in realtime without the need to quit the game. It’s extremely useful.
We’re not talking about simple presets of dampening settings, spring setting, etc. We’re talking about 100+ motor control parameters that other wheel’s don’t give you access to because they hardcode them in firmware. In addition to the wheel modes you can also make profiles of spring, dampening, etc.
I did put in for the contest. I would be willing to swap out my G27 for one of these. I do plan on eventually buying a really heavy duty wheel after my two G27’s go out. I want to buy a really heavy duty pedal set and a headset made to last then too. My Tritton 720+ sets are good but tend to break at the hinges but I beefed mine up with Gorilla tape so mine are holding up for a couple more years. Too bad almost everything is built to be disposable these days. It is good to see someone is building something to take years of abuse.
Omg, gaming have got complicated.
I for one do not keep up anymore, i do like the technicstuff but im too
stupid for the understanding of them all and/or all words used here or the meaning of
some functions (that goes for R3E too) , jaja 15 more years and hopefully i grow to old to race anyway 😛
