If you have rFactor 2 in your Steam library, there are three mods out (they appear new to the Workshop) with updates that may be something of interest for your sim racing plate. For those that have rFactor 2 within their Steam library, the Steam Workshop is an invaluable tool that makes using and staying up to date with mods extremely easy. Once you find a mod that you would like to try, just hit the “subscribe button and that’s it. Workshop and rFactor 2 take care of the rest by putting the specified mod into the correct folders and auto-updating if the publisher does the same. Don’t want the mod in your library any more? Just hit the “unsubscribe” button and all the relevant files are deleted. It’s by far the easiest way to try mods out and stay up to date with new revisions. In fact, it’s so easy that I’m surprised other titles that support modding within the sim racing community on Steam don’t use Workshop as well.
Virginia International Raceway v1.10
Located in Alton, Virginia (USA) near the banks of the Dan River, Virginia International Raceway is a roller coaster of track that can challenge the most seasoned racers in the world. Two of the most striking features are the 4000 ft long back straight and the “Climbing Esses”. The esses have a high entry speed that give way to a back and forth of ever tightening curves while cresting and bottoming out through the tricky section. This mod features five versions of the track with the full course being the main attraction.
BMW 320 Turbo Group 5

There were four generations of Group 5 cars and arguably the most notable out of that generation was the last (4th). This generation fielded “Special Production Cars” from 1976 to 1982 and spawned some of the most unique and recognizable cars to date because of the extensive modifications that would be allowed on these production based cars. The BMW 320i Turbo was introduced in 1977 for both Group 5 and the DRM series in order to put the aging 3.0/3.5 CSL out to pasture. The “Flying Brick” was powered by a Formula Two power plant that produced approximately 306 bhp and was developed in just over 12 weeks.
The poster Juergen Herrmann gives credit to JuergenBY, Senormen and ISR Corti and also cites how this mod was based on a version floating around the internet with an undisclosed author. Interesting… The 320 was not in a drivable state and the team decided to put some effort into the “barn find” to see if they could get it running. Initial tests by forum posters seem positive and the BMW 320 Turbo looks to be a great addition to the rF2 mod community.
MagnyCours GP v1.45
Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours (as the title suggests) is located between the remote French towns of Magny-Cours and Nevers. The circuit was constructed in 1960 and was all but abandoned in the 1980’s. Magny-Cours came back to life with the arrival of the French Formula One Grand Prix in 1991, but was abandoned by the premier FIA sanctioning body in 2009.
This mod version was derived from the original track created for Race07. Since then, “digga” made the convert to rFactor 2 and has done some really nice texture, road mesh and curb updates among many others.
Have you tried any of these new Steam Workshop mods and if you have, how do you like them? As always, let us know in the comments below.
