I mentioned in my earlier story on the the release of iRacing’s Mount Panorama, that I was going to put up a “Test Drive” video. Well.. Here it is! In the future I’ll add commentary, for this one, I wanted the Aussie V8 to do the talking.
I took out the Ford Aussie V8 Supercar and took it for a spin. I was able to muster a lap in the 2:14 range with a lot left on the table. I ran a baseline setup with a taller rear gear setup and only 5 gallons of fuel. I had my best lap going and started to push it, when at the top of the hill, I clipped the apex and pushed wide into the wall. Took on some damage but was able to continue on and finish the lap.
I have to say that this is probably now my new favorite track in the iRacing service. It’s going to put a hurting on some safety and iRatings in official sessions. If you can master this place, you may be able to score some big wins and pick up some big iRating and Safety rating points. If you want to run for fun, iRacing has week 13 going on right now and you can race without risk of safety or iRating with the V8 Supercar, or a muliclass setup with the Pontiac Solstice, Maza MX-5 Cup and the SCCA Spec Racer Ford, all of which received the new tire model, better known as NTM5.
I have pulled together all the opportunities to run this great track this season. The first time being, week 3 that begins on November 12 and runs the Corvettes, HPDs and Ford GTs all on track at the same time for 70 minute races. That’s going to be crazy ! I think I’ll stick to the single class races. I have my eye on the Radical and Aussie V8 races.
