One of the popular DIY projects in our forums is the R-Pod MkII, made by forum member SpaceHedgehog. Now, he has shown us the finished cockpit, and it is a thing of beauty! It definitely is one of the most elaborate wood rigs I’ve seen in a while!
SpaceHedgehog, after getting Assetto Corsa, he decided that he wanted to design a new cockpit. The shifter on his Logitech G27 (not pictured) failed, so he decided to upgrade his setup. And upgrade he did! He purchased the full Fanatec Clubsport package (base, Formula and BMW rims, Clubsport Shifter SQ, and V2 Pedals) and a ButtKicker setup.
After making those purchases, he felt like his stock setup wouldn’t cut it. He decided to make his new rig inspired by his DIY arcade cabinet, which features a very modern and sculpted design. He also wanted to connect his ultra wide ASUS monitor to the cockpit, and have a dedicated shifter mount. As you can see from the photos below, he exceeded his job, and then some!
Some other notable features on the rig are:
- ButtKicker situated next to the shifter, with two underneath the seat
- DSD P1 Button Box, gutted to fit into the dashboard
- Sparco racing seat
- Lights on the rig, for night racing
- Tow hook (you don’t need it, but it looks freaking awesome!)
- Fire Extinguisher (You never know)
- Custom designed logo for the rig
The estimated cost for the rig (minus components) is £500-£600, but having such an awesome design is priceless! You can give SpaceHedgehog some well deserved props here. Remember, our forums are a great place to show off your DIY projects, just chat, and maybe make some friends in the process!
What cockpit are you using? Let us know in the comments!
