Right before the New Year kicked in, I decided to do a Driveclub Rain Racing Test Drive. A lot of folks have been telling me to check out Driveclub since they’ve made some significant changes and so I did.
I’m racing with the Thrustmaster T300 RS and a set of T500 RS pedals.
First up I take on a challenge that was sent to me. It’s at a Canadian track called “Maplewood” in the Bentley Continental GT Speed with some light rain falling. I checked for a few more challenges in the rain, but couldn’t find any.
Next up I start up a single player race and look for some snow but the best I can find is heavy precipitation and I go to Norway to the track called “Atlanterhavsvegen” and I run the race on “Legend” for 3 laps in the RUF RT12 R.
I thought both cars were rear wheel drive but have since come to find out that they were both AWD, so I probably didn’t get the most out of my first Driveclub rain experience.
Hopefully you enjoy this test drive of the new rain racing feature in Driveclub and also hope you had a safe and Happy New Year celebration !

That is the best rain and wiper effects I have seen so far. It looks like most of the games it is getting more expensive to play. The video and quick load times were real pluses to me.
I agree that Driveclub’s rain and windshield wipers are better than anything else out there. I also appreciate how visibility is actually hindered by the precipitation (IGN showed this in a video of heavy snow at night time).
I only wish the gameplay of Driveclub was not so darn arcadey but that is because sim racing appeals to me whereas arcade does not. Project cars would do well to try and copy how driveclub has implemented rain to some degree. Although I think PCars is better than driveclub in almost all respects, when it comes to rain effects, Driveclub has Project cars beat by a mile. To be frank, the rain in Pcars looks utterly terrible in comparison.
