Gran Turismo SPORT Announced for the PS4

It’s finally happening.  Gran Turismo is coming to the next-gen console in the form of Gran Turismo SPORT for the PlayStation 4 (PS4).  Essentially, welcome to Gran Turismo 7 Prologue.

It’s hard to say what Gran Turismo SPORT is at this time but it appears to skew strongly towards racing (with only sporty road cars tossed in).  For SPORT, Polyphony is teaming up with the FIA and creating two FIA sanctioned online championships for anyone to compete in or spectate (you know watching people is becoming more popular than playing when the official press release talks about it).  The two championships are the Nations Cup, where players can drive for their home country, or Manufactures Cup, where you can support your favorite car maker.

Winners will receive an official FIA ceremony honoring them, so make sure to have you passport ready for your trip to Paris.  I mean, you probably only have to beat out millions of people…

Polyphony states the usual upgrades for SPORT on the PS4, including better graphics, sounds and revamped physics.  I’m sure it’ll look pretty and handle well, but this title is going to come down to the sounds and whether or not Polyphony can put the hair dryer back in the drawer.

Outside of this, very little is known about SPORT at this time.  Have to imagine content wise it’ll be pretty similar to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which means a partial game, but a relatively substantial partial game.

All I know is we are just happy to see Gran Turismo leaving the PlayStation 3 and moving on to where it should have been for the past couple years, the PS4.

Beta testing for Gran Turismo SPORT begins in early 2016.

  1. Any news is good news. I still love gran turismo. After playing on PC in iracing, and everything else PC has to offer, I’ll admin I found so much more enjoyment out of the arsenal of gear available for pc sim racing (DD wheels, Button boxes, custom pedals, etc.). I prefer real online competition in iracing alongside sim racing fans as nuts as I am for the hobbie / passion. But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up on GT. I don’t think any other game celebrates cars and the pure joy of driving as well as gran turismo. The presentation, the depth, the variety, the soundtrack, and the “gran turismo-ness” of it all just puts me into a great mood, no matter how crazy life can get. It’ll be an awesome escape into car heaven when it releases.
