With iRacing not only at the Sim Racing Expo 2015 at the Nurburgring this weekend, but sponsoring the Blancpain Endurance Series event, we had a strong hunch that a new content announcement – or two – was coming. Well iRacing has held up their end of the bargain by announcing that the new Audi R8 LMS GT3 car is coming to the service. Excellent.
Honestly, another GT3 car announced at a GT3 event isn’t too surprising but what makes this announcement nice is it’s probably the most desirable new GT3 car out there. The Audi R8’s have been kicking ass and taking names for years and it’s good to see the mean looking next-gen version coming to iRacing.
The R8 will join the other GT3 cars in iRacing’s virtual version of the Blancpain Sprint and Endurance Series. What is more intriguing though is when will it be released? The R8 is the third announced-but-unreleased GT3 car, behind the Aston Martin V12 Vantage – announced at last year’s Expo – and the Mercedes-AMG GT.
With Season 4 of iRacing’s Blancpain Endurance Series being the qualifier for next year’s Blancpain GT World Championship, will any of these cars be added before it starts? The teams must select one car at the beginning of the year and stick to it for the whole season, so it’ll be interesting to see if iRacing pushes to get these GT3 cars out before the season starts or just leave them out of the series until 2017 (but still run them in the weekly endurance and sprint series upon release)?
With that said, the press release does state that the Mercedes-AMG GT is “soon-to-be-released,” so maybe we’ll be seeing one of these very cool looking GT3 cars #soon.
Wonder if iRacing talked to Audi about any other of their cars joining the service…maybe of the hybrid variety…

I guess as long as they are growing that must be good.
Pretty exciting stuff. I have to say, other than the FPS drop, this build has had probably the most compliments on the forum 😀
