Gran Turismo 6 vs Forza Motorsport 5 @ Silverstone Comparison

The biggest head to head comparison in sim racing history is about to take place.  I think this is the first time that both Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport are releasing the same year, heck within weeks of each other. Unfortunately one is on the previous gen system (GT6) and the other on Next Gen (FM5). Can GT6 keep up on the PS3 versus FM5 on the XOne ?

Digiprost has put together this video matching up Forza Motorsport 5 against Gran Turismo 6 at Silverstone.  I’m sure we’ll be seeing tons of these comparisons coming in the next year.  We’ll be doing a major comparison ourselves.

Which do you think looks better ? We all know it’s a lot more than looks.. Which do you think will be better overall ?

$500? As from a point you don’t have any console, you would need to buy the previous Gen or the the next Gen.

      Grad Tourisom – $59,99
      PS3 160GB – $300
      ~$360

      Forza 5 – $59,99
      XBoxOne – $499.99
      ~$560

So the difference would be $200

      1. Not when you figure in the fact that I need to buy a new wheel for Forza 5 as well. I can’t play a driving game with a gamepad and I can still use my old Fanatec PWTS on GT6 just fine. But would need to shell out big bucks to get a similar wheel for Forza 5.

  1. Definitely the Xbox One looks better and more detailed. Physics… dont’t know? Sound of Forza 5 will be better again I think. Still like those 2 titles and will buy those 2 :).

  2. The clear sky for GT6 seems a little odd and empty, it makes colors more flashy and gives a little too much of contrast, and there is also a very slight touch of aliasing. Forza takes a huge advantage of the new gen console with very realistic lighting. Gorgeous. But there are also God rays and other massive glares effects (not seen in this video because of the cloudy sky) which are over-exagerated in Forza 5 and this bold candy-eye effect eventually plays against realism.
Appart from the graphical gap, the two versions of the tracks are fairly well detailed. Gran Turismo keeps this “bumpy track” feeling that gives an extra point for immersion.
Both titles have their pros and cons. The match seemed to be unequal but appears to be quite balanced in fact. The only reason to buy those games is racing and having good time afterall !

  3. I don’t know where you live but a PS3 in minnesota is $249 for a 250G new and you can get a used one for $175 so your $200 logic is bad., So the cost is a factor also factor in the new wheel if you are a wheel guy. FM5 does look nicer but to me FM put to much extra stuff into the background that has nothing to do with the driving on track. GT6 looks more like a track day event. That to me helps add to the feeling of being on the track. In the end it is a pust to me when factor in the cost to fully enjoy FM5.

    1. Your kidding right? What in the Forza 5 version did you see that didn’t belong? The crowd in the stands? The various buildings that GT6 left out because the PS3 barely has enough power to render the track as it is? I own both games and I will tell you that on many tracks GT6 is barely running at 30fps. Forza 5 is NOT NFS SHIFT. The tracks look amazing and all run at a steady 60fps. I just wish my FANATEC CSR ELITE worked with it! Funny playing GT6 with a Forza branded wheel and not bring able to use it with Forza! Both games drive amazing though. I am having a blast going back and forth between the two!

Damn forza 5 looks so good. I’ll have to wait until there are decent wheels that support it. In the meantime GT6 looks great too.
