iRacing Development Update

iRacing’s Executive Vice President and Executive Producer, Steve Myers, took to the iRacing website yesterday for one of his popular update blogs.  In the nearly 2500-word blog (we counted), Steve hits on a wide range of subjects, so many in fact, that we’ve narrowed them down to bullet point form below, because you damn kids are too ADD these days!

  • iRacing now has over 50 employees.
  • Even with some downtime due to DDoS attacks, about 75% of the attacks were stopped by iRacing’s measures, measures that have cost nearly a half-million dollars.
  • iRacing now has an HTC Vive VR headset in the office and support is coming.
  • Dirt development has lead to improvements in dynamic track surfaces that will be coming in the next build in September.
  • No dirt release date yet.
  • V7 of the tire model is almost complete.
  • Dirt Late Model (pictured above) is almost done and is coming in three versions: Super Late Model, Limited Late Model and Late Model Stock.
  • A winged dirt sprint car is coming to iRacing and is being scanned next week.
  • Eldora and Williams Grove are in development, with the spine completed on both and artwork being worked on now.
  • USA Speedway will be filled with dirt so there’s a dirt track as part of the base content package.
  • A dirt version of the Street Stock is also being created for the base content package.
  • Development on the Ford Fiesta RallyCross car (pictured below) is underway and the handbrake is already modeled.
  • Art team is working hard to have Le Mans done for the September build.
  • UI improvements – such as being able to join a race session while in game – should be out by the end of the year in beta form, with the rest of it coming in 2017.
  • The transition from DX9 to DX11 is in its final stages, so work on new features, such as day night transitions, can begin to come online.
  • More sound improvements coming in every foreseeable build.
  • New people animations are in development, with new driver model coming in September.
  • Flags that blow in the wind are being worked on.

Well, that gives us plenty to talk about on the June 29th edition of This Week Inside Sim Racing.
