Project CARS has filled in one more piece of the puzzle on their way to a November release with the unveiling of the supported wheels, pedals and controllers list. Slightly Mad has pointed out that the list is not finalized, but it should give a good idea to those interested in the title.
The most noticeable feature of the list is the amount of Thrustmaster support, with Thrustmaster currently being the sole peripheral provider for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is most likely due to a collaboration effort between Project CARS and Thrustmaster that was announced today.
It will be interesting to see how much, if at all, this list changes between now and release in November. What do you think about the list?

If PS4 is going with Thrustmaster, I guess that will where we part ways. I have 2 G27 wheels and I am not changing over. It does save me buying a PS4. I already have a fantastic PC and I am going to triple screens anyways. No way am I buying 3 PS4’s and 3 copies of the game.
No guarantee of triple support on ps4, only Forza supported on Xbox 360 – but lacking in Forza 5 – I run triples on PC with rig, and definitely the way to go.
The plan is looking more solid on me severing ties with PS, I have a PC with a 780 vid card. The gameplay is so much more superior on pc anyways. Consoles seem to be heading toward controllers only.
780 will triple no issues, I have 2 x 770 4gb in SLi – and Oculus looks awesome – but may not fit all game types – thankfully Racing Sims are perfect for Rift
Save your money on triples and wait for the Oculus Rift. http://www.oculusvr.com/
Supports Fanatec – so I’m in…. Been following Project Cars for what feels like a lifetime….
No love for Fanatec on PS4 –> no buy.
Like I mentioned above about Logitech, it’s on Fanatec to get their wheels licensed and compatible with the PS4, not Playstation or the developers.
I don’t understand why there are so few supported wheels on the consoles.
glad to see my very old MOMO Racing is still there 🙂
Sure there is time for them to pull their heads out, but I have not seen any sign of intelligence from the PS4 people. Just not encouraged so far.
I really hope they add PS4 support for Logitech wheels (G25/27 in particular). There are a lot of GT5 and GT6 players out there with Logitech wheels that are not very happy about the list as it stands now (myself included)…..
It’s on Logitech to get their wheels compatible with the PS4. They pulled out of the console world a few years back to only support the PC. I hope they do as well, but there’s no one to blame but Logitech for that.
I didn’t realize Logitech were completely out of the console business (including support of legacy peripherals). This is so frustrating…. I left the PC Simracing world in the early 2000s with the purchase of a PS3 because I got tired of the constant need to upgrade my PC just to ‘keep up’ with the latest games. The hardware obsolescence in PCs was killing me in the pocket book. Now the irony is that PCs have been relatively stable for the past few years and Microsoft and Sony have begun to design obsolescence into their new consoles (at least as it relates to peripherals).
If the PC version of PCARs can use older Logitech wheels, then shouldn’t it fall to Sony (not Logitech IMO) to do the right thing for their customers and provide a work-around for both game developers and consumers? Surely that’s not a complicated fix…..?
It’s not on Sony or Microsoft to be honest. It lies on Fanatec, Logitech and Thrustmaster to work with Sony or Microsoft to first be a licensed product. Then they need to work with each individual developer to make sure that they are programming the game to work with each peripheral. On the PC it’s different. Companies don’t need to license their products to work with Windows. They only need to work with the developers to make sure they program for them. Logitech and Thrustmaster worked with Sony to make sure their peripherals were licensed products. Fanatec just developed their hardware to mimic the G25 / G27 and basically sidestepped the licensing.
It is what it is.. You may consider selling your G27 and get a Thrustmaster T300 when they come out later this year. Timing should be perfect for PCars, Drive Club and eventually GT7. It will be fully compatible with both systems (PS3 and PS4) and Thrustmaster is working with the developers to insure that they work in game as well.
To me the whole thing stinks of greedy (Sony) boardroom decisions with no consideration of how it will impact current gamers. I don’t want to belabor this point, but if Logitech peripherals were ‘licensed’ for the PS3, then whats stopping Sony from carrying those licenses forward in the architecture of the PS4? Nothing really, that I can see, except that Sony wants to collect the licensing fees from Thrustmaster and others. And the only way they can do that is by forcing new licensing agreements ($) in exchange for support/compatibility on new consoles.
Perhaps its time for me to reconsider the console vs PC debate and make the switch back to PC. Instead of selling my G27, perhaps I should sell my PS4… Darin, your Throwback Thursdays have me all nostalgic lately for the glory days of GPL, Papyrus titles, etc. 😉
The whole Logitech on the PS4 discussion is simple, really. Sony cannot program support in for old devices. They make a new architecture, so they expose a new API, using different variables, calls and functions. It’s up to the hardware manufacturers to provide the middleware (drivers/firmware) to communicate with the new API. If they do not choose to do it, their peripherals die. Thrustmaster seems to be the new Logitech – just better, really. I would offload my G27 and purchase a better wheel, tbh. I fully understand your position however and share it, which is why I have not purchased any new gen consoles yet.
and sony can’t expose the new api to communicate to old devices, right? what a dumb logic…
I have a PC with a GTX780 3 Gb video card, so I am just moving all my racing to PC. I am confident that my PC will be fast enough for the next few years. The PS4 and Xboxone are no match for my PC. When GT6 shuts down, I will use my PS3 for movies only. I am constantly fighting with it to connect, stay on and so are all my friends. Sadly I will lose some old GT friends if they stay with PS, but such is life.
Fanatec is too damn lazy to do their own drivers.
These are the ones that are officially supported . My Fanatec wheel is not officially supported by GT 6 or any other PS3 title, but works perfectly with all of the ones I have.
All I can think for PS4 is that a Thrustmaster T200 is just what the doctor ordered. Something in between the price range of the 100 and 300. Could have 900º of rotation but less features than the t300…or better yet same features but instead of brush-less, metal could be black painted aluminum to save cost on materials to deliver a middle ground wheel for customer’s not pleased with the price of the t300 and not impressed with the lack of 900º rotation on the t100…anyone agree?
Seems Thrustmaster is king these days.
All I wish is Thrustmaster go bankrupt.
