Project CARS is one of the highly anticipated racing titles, set to release this year. However, Slightly Mad Studios has announced that their first solo racing game will be postponed until March 17, 2015 in the US (March 20th in the UK). The official reasoning for this title is to get the release away from the competitive Holiday season, and to give more time to improve on the title prior to it going gold. For more information, you can check out the press release below.
I personally feel that this is a good decision in the long run. Project CARS is set to be one of the first major full fledged simulation titles to be simultaneously released for consoles and PC. This will likely be a beacon in the industry, to shed more light onto this niche hobby we take part in. However, if it is poorly executed, it could lead to a controversial situation. One of my personal concerns was if SMS could be rushing Project CARS to the market, and if things would be left unfinished. I think that four extra months could definitely lead to a more polished and stable platform.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
PROJECT CARS RE-SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 2015
Slightly Mad Studios and BANDAI NAMCO Games America Inc. today announced they will be moving the release of Project CARS for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC to March 17, 2015.
The move positions the title away from the competitive holiday scene dominated by household names while affording the team at Slightly Mad Studios additional time to extend and polish their ground-breaking and accomplished next-gen racing experience that’s been created alongside a community of over 85,000 racing fans and real-life professional drivers.
“Our goal has always been to deliver a landmark title that encompasses the wishes and desires of racing fans from all around the world; something with features and content powered by the community that provide a truly unforgettable and pioneering experience” said Ian Bell, Head of Studio at Slightly Mad Studios. “Whilst a tough decision to make, the change in release date allows the game the greatest chance of success and visibility, and the opportunity to polish the game even further to the high standards that both ourselves and our community demand and expect. We’re eager for you all to see what we’ve been working on in just a few months.”
Project CARS aims to deliver the most authentic, beautiful, intense, and technically-advanced racing game on the planet. Crowd-funded by a passionate community that has been involved in the development process from day-one to create their ultimate racing experience, Project CARS includes the largest track roster of any recent racing game, a huge variety of motorsports to play, a freeform and authentic career mode, world-class graphics and handling, dynamic time of day & weather, and a suite of community features and connectivity that leave the competition behind in the dust.

Well, that’s nothing short of disappointing. I was planning on taking a day off of work for it. Oh well, I’m sure I could use a day off in March.
:o/
I’m afraid I don’t really know what :o/ means. I’m old.
Haha…i was hoping the same but…
So you are the old hardcore sim racer? 😀
Yeah, I’m old by gaming standards. Old enough to have one kid graduate college and another in her junior year (and I got married late). So, not “old” but, older than your average gamer for sure.
And, I’m not all that hardcore either but I enjoy sim racing over arcade racing. And I enjoy racing over “driving” which is why I find myself playing R3E more than AC even though AC may have better physics.
But, yeah, this news has my bummed out. I was very much looking forward to pCars next month. Serves me right, I guess. I should have gotten in on the beta when I had the chance.
Wow nice,2 children….great…im 28 yearls old
I also didnt buy the beta…i didnt even know there was a beta out…but this is very annoying, one month before the release they tell us that the game the will be released after 5 months :/
They do know the early access way, dont they? This would be the best solution imo
Yeah, early access would be a great idea!
So sad. I was really looking forward to this. I suppose a delay is a good thing in the long run. I was just so ready for it.
Project CARS is a great sim/game. However it’s not really close to being ready from the latest builds I’ve been running. The AI in races are comical. Most races finish with no AI left running, with debris strewn across the whole of the track. It’s really funny to see, but they’ll need to fix this for people to have a serious race with the AI.
Well, that’s good to know because I do mostly offline racing. So good AI is important to me. I like the AI in GSCE, rF2 and R3E. The AI in AC still needs some work. And don’t even get me started on the AI in FM5, it’s annoying as hell.
I was originally disappointed with R3E, as it’s driving feel was a bit off somehow. The new release is better, and I agree with you the AI is good. Maybe the best there is at the moment.
For some reason, all of these games with early access never really seem to get finished. Even the ones that are released still feel 80% finished. It almost seems as if the desire to “wow” the gaming world and the general enthusiasm for the release is greatly diminished because everybody has already seen the product. The devs must make a nice bit of cash from early access too which seems to erode their motivation to produce a highly polished product.
I’d already organised part of my annual holidays to coincide with the release of Project Cars. Now I feel like a bit of a chump.
This is ridiculous. I have switched to pure PC racing with this release in mind. Okay, I have plenty of other games, but I convinced a friend of mine that is computer-illiterate to buy a PC like mine and buy 2 more 40″ tvs, so we could race this supposedly “virtually plug and play” game. Yeah we can do iRacing, but he gets frustrated over the safety rating gigs for brushing a blade of grass. Dang it. Well I better break the news to him, maybe he can cancel his orders. Very disappointing Slightly Mad.
Really happy at this as it means more time on Horizon 2! Win win situation 🙂 Also gives me more time to buy a wheel!
