Assetto Corsa Happenings December 24th Edition

With the release of v1.0 of Assetto Corsa last week and a number of mods coming out, its been busy times in the Assetto Corsa universe.  Let’s take a look at the latest previews, announcements and releases.

1987 RUF CTR Yellowbird

Kunos has released a couple screenshots of the RUF CTR Yellowbird, the next car to arrive in the sim.  It sounds like the car just missed the v1.0 release, so it should be out shortly, most likely this calendar year.

It’ll be interesting to see if Kunos takes the RUF release as an opportunity to make other updates to the title.  Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Inanimate Carbon Mod

While many mods have focused on cars and tracks, JonZ – of pretty Project CARS video fame – has gone a different direction with the Inanimate Carbon mod.  The mod is actually a graphics tweak that is suppose to improve the in-game lighting and look.  The key updates can be seen below:

– Rewrite lights intensity and ambient lights

– no excessive use of blooms

– Color calibration based on race footage and real life references

– Full color spectrum – no de-saturation trickeries

– Realistic car reflections and clouds

– Sharper details (may require a slight more powerful machine)

– different pp files for different usage such as photography, with more or less contrasts or temperature.

– SweetFX optional

– few different pp files to suits user’s taste.

Based off the video JonZ made, I think the updates look fantastic.  Even though I can objectively say that Assetto Corsa is pretty, I don’t think its very realistic looking in terms of lighting.  JonZ’s update seems to fix this.

You can download the ICM here.

  1. The inanimate mod sounds interesting. I have having problems tweaking the in-game graphics to make the visuals look clean and bright like the intro vid.
