Assetto Corsa RUF CTR Yellowbird Out Now

I’m always a little skeptical when a video begins with the line, “we are about to ruin your social life.”  My response is, “Ha! I already don’t have a social life for you to ruin!”  Then I slither back to my sim rig in the basement…

With that said, Kunos Simulazioni may be on to something with the release of the 1987 RUF CTR Yellowbird.  I jumped in the car for a few laps and before I knew it I was out of gas and had no idea how many laps I had done. The 469 hp late ’80’s supercar is such a handful that focusing on anything else besides driving became pointless.

Want to step on the gas?  Good luck!  Want to stop?  I hope you brought the anchor from your yacht.  Wait, you don’t have a yacht?  Well if you hit the brakes going into Becketts you may – emphasis on may – get her woahed down by Eau Rouge while leaving skid marks across the English Channel a good part of Western Europe.

I even jumped back into the Lotus 49, what I deem a tough car to drive and stop, for a comparison and found the Lotus easier to drive.  With all this said, the Yellowbird sure is an addictive car.  I’m scared of what the online races may look like but as a hot lapper, its good fun.

You can drive the Yellowbird yourself (good luck!) once you download version 1.0.1 of Assetto Corsa from Steam.  If you don’t already have Assetto Corsa, its still available for a 30% discount until January 2nd.

  1. I was really skeptical of the “infamous” Yellowbird Ruf, but I have to say I really enjoyed “hooning” around in it. It will spin around on you, but it is an absolute blast to drive. I think it drives better than some of the other cars in the game, it will bite you, but that is part of the fun. Well done Assetto Corsa.

  2. I’m not generally into driving street cars in my racing sims. But, this thing is a blast to drive. I had no intention of liking it at all and I’m actually finding it to be one of the single most enjoying driving experiences in a sim in a long, long time. Really top-notch stuff. Kunos hit one out of the park with this release.

    And, it’s free!
