Driver Swaps Coming to iRacing in Season 4 2014

At long last, there appears to be a light at the end of the iRacing driver swap tunnel.  Steve Myers of iRacing took to his blog today to unveil that driver swaps will be coming in the Season 4 build (mid-November).  It sounds like the feature could have been pushed for Season 3 but we all know what happens when software gets rushed…we sit around waiting for the site to come back up.  So in the name of good judgment, we’ll get it in Season 4.

Steve also explained how driver swaps will work.  Simply create a team, invite your teammates and argue over who gets to practice the car first.  When one driver exits the car the next driver can press the Drive button and take over seamlessly.  The system sounds pretty simple and intuitive.

If you read the blog post – and you should – you can tell that Steve is pretty fired up but he isn’t the only one.  Darin Gangi of this fine site added, “Endurance racing was what I was doing as we started ISR. It is by far the most fun I have ever had sim racing and adds a whole new element of driving cautiously to the mix. You want to bring that car home to the next driver and to ultimately finish the race together as a team.”

Amen Darin, I can’t wait for this feature.  Who knows, we might actually have a virtual 24 Hours of Daytona next January…

And one more thing…

For good measure, Steve posted some preview shots of the next two tracks coming to the service, Donnington and Phoenix.
