Fanatec Officially Unveils GT Rim for ClubSport Wheel

After it’s semi-unofficial debut by German racing driver René Rast yesterday, Fanatec has now officially announced the GT rim for the ClubSport Wheel.  The rim is similar to the Flat1 rim, which debuted earlier this week, except for the rim shape…and the iPhone mounted on it!  The rim can be fitted with an optional phone holder, allowing you to use your phone as a display.  Fanatec isn’t offering an app since there are plenty of free ones already supported by many titles, like the Brass Monkey app.

What is special about the phone holder is it has an integrated power supply to charge your phone while you race.  A very good idea.  Fanatec has released the image below that shows the backside of the wheel and what I assume to be the USB connection between the phone and the power supply.  The picture also gives a glimpse of the button clusters, which look potentially modular, maybe allowing for upgrades in the future.

A diameter was not given but Fanatec’s Thomas Jackermeier said it will be similar to the BMW rim.  Weight will be announced at a later date.

The rim will be available this summer for 349,95 Euro / USD (incl. tax / excl. tax).  No word on how much the optional phone holder will cost or if it can be mounted to other Fanatec rims at this time.
